paraty was colonized in 1640, and had many years of glory and splendor due to the gold and coffee trades. paraty’s decline started in 1870 when a new train railway was built connecting the coffee plantations from minas gerais to the port of rio de janeiro, 200 kilometers further north. the abolition of slavery also made it´s life very difficult. without these economic strongholds,
paraty froze in time – incredibly- until 1975, when the highway that links rio de janeiro to santos was constructed. this hundred year isolation saved paraty. today, paraty is as it was in the 19th century, perfectly preserved, beautiful and historic. we chose paraty to shoot this catalogue because of it’s stunning atmosphere. it fits perfectly with the totem summer collection.
