PARISH NEWS

From The Pastor

St. Peregrine Icon

This is the season during which parents typically begin to think about registering their child/ren for school in the fall. Please remember that if your child/ren attend(s) a Catholic school which assesses a surcharge for non-parishioners, and you are an active, registered member of Mary, Mother of Jesus Parish, we will pay that assessment for you. This is one way to assist everyone in being able to register in the parish of their spiritual choice rather than financial need. Please feel free to contact me.

Located on the left hand wall in the front of the church is an icon of St. Peregrine, patron saint of cancer patients and their caregivers. It was donated by Fr. Paul in memory of his late father, Eugene and all those who have lost the valiant fight against cancer. Please use this icon as an image for prayer, and feel free to touch and/or kiss it according to tradition.

Anointing Of The Sick

Darlene Antee, Laura Callico, Gerri Craft, Regina Normand and Barbara Reich for the delicious desserts they prepared and donated for sale at our June Monday Night Supper.

This sacrament should no longer be considered exclusively for the dying, as in “last rites”. It is to be celebrated by and for those whose health has been seriously impaired by illness or old age. Anyone may be anointed before surgery or an invasive test or medical procedure. Elderly people may be anointed if they have become notably weakened even though no serious illness is present. The sacrament may be repeated if the sick person recovers after being anointed and then again falls ill or if during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious. This is one more way that God imparts to each of us, and in particular at this time to the seriously ill and elderly his endless love and grace. Please contact Fr. Paul if you would like to be anointed at home; in the hospital; before, during or after Mass.

Fall Garage Sale Our parish is planning ahead for a garage sale in the fall. As you continue to clean and organize your homes, please save any garage sale worthy items you may have lying around your house or garage etc. All donations for our sale are appreciated. Please keep in mind that we do not have any storage space at the hall for your items. So please mark them with a price and hang on to them until we announce a date and time for drop off. If you have any questions, please call Priscilla Gadel at (318) 446-5502. 4

In today’s Gospel we encounter the Pharisee who is rather inhospitable to Jesus. He doesn’t seek Jesus’ friendship. And yet the unknown woman who appears is quite eager to be where Jesus is and to show him her tremendous gratitude. She does some extraordinary things: She gets down by Jesus’ feet, and, weeping, she wets his feet with her tears and wipes them with her hair! She even kisses his feet and anoints them with some perfumed oil. The woman lavishes her love and appreciation for Jesus. Christian stewards show their love for Jesus in tangible ways every day. Others don’t really seek his friendship. Who are we more apt to be like in this Gospel story, the Pharisee or the grateful woman?

Our Homebound Joan Alpha, Marty Doiron, Richard Kelly, Mary Mayeaux, Ray Reich, Fleta Waits, Mary Virginia Young

Our Nursing Home Residents Florence Broussard, Rose Ponthieux, Emma Wells
