Work 02 / Necessity of Life

Introduction |

Since 1960s Taiwan has starts it’s modernization to become four leading country in Asia. Nowadays, the Northern part may be the proof of the process, however this land of ancient Pinpu ethnic group greatly transform from the natural landscape into an “ideal home” for Taiwanese. However, is this the right thing? exchanging nature with residential?

Portfolio | 17

The factory was emptied as industrial areas moved North

Work 02 / Necessity of Life

Industrial timeline |

Listen to our land Industrial are two sides sword, it will bring good impact to the country in the road to modernization but in the other hand our land are facing a time bomb waiting for its time to explode due to the exploitation that we human made. Industrialization is the right thing to be done but need to be in sync with the right mind set that we need to preserve this world so that the future generation can still enjoy and see what we have today. Listen to our land, what they need, so that its existence will be longer and we become responsible human being.

Portfolio | 18

CONCEPT DIAGRAMS | Zone

SOUNDCAVE | before 1970

Among human 5 senses , the most dominant is visual. In dark cave space, the vision is weakened and our hearing are re-triggered. The space is channeled with water drop shaped chandeliers. Each light source also serves as a sound source and plays natural enviroment sound, converged into listener’s natural imagination. So once again imagination, people, and nature re-connected.

Portfolio | 19

WASTE GARDEN | 1970s-present

On the road to development, we destroy the forest, we “healed” the roads and built “forest”. We arbitrarily consume resources to turn nature into commodities and send them back to serve as a “beautiful view” for the next generation. This space will show us how we are blinded so far by inserting beautiful installation that actually are industial waste , we have been living in an artificial world.

Work 02 / Necessity of Life

2080 | future

In 2080, the prediction said that Taiwan will be drown and left with top of a mountain as the remaining dry land due to global warming. We don’t know whether it will happen or not , but this is an issuue that we need to be concern of. This space make us experience as if our land are already under the sea, from our eye sight level up is the land that are left.

Concept diagram|

HARMONY| Starts from now

Enviroment is our most precious treasure, how to create a mutualism symbiosis is now becoming our most precious homework. This space represent the beautiful relation between human and nature in the future that we will live in if we take care of our enviroment starts from now. It is a contrast from the lasy space to create a choice of future depends on our action.

KNOT We take the company main spirit that keeps its business running from 1960 till now which is partnership and adding function. The knot inside the space represent collaboration between company and each line has their own function.

LINK We bring this link concept to the space by extending one line function to other function inside that creates a continuous diverse usage.

WEAVE In a fabric what we visually see is the weave, however what creates the weave is actually the knot inside it. We bring this concept to create the interior and exterior of the hotel.
