OBJECTIVE
• Learn how to locate ourselves in English.
• Acquire vocabulary to ask for and give directions.

WARM-UP (5-10 minutes)
Activity: Listening Practice - Directions Dialogue
Instructions:
• Before listen the dialogue, match the directions and the pictures, write the correct word in the boxes below the picture:
Instructions to work in pairs:
• Listen to the British Council - Giving directions Dialogue (British Council, n.d).
• Pay attention to the vocabulary and phrases used to describe directions.
• After listening, discuss with a partner what you understood about the directions given.
• Then, share your understanding and the new words that you identify with the classmates Activity 1: Listening Comprehension
Instructions:
1. Pay attention to the video Not Afraid to Ask for Directions (Nat Geo, 2014), it is a dialogue between three people asking for and giving directions.
2. Ask the students to listen carefully and pay attention as the couple asks for directions to the museum and listen to follow the directions mentioned in the dialogue.
3. After the clip, discuss the directions and confirm if the students followed them correctly.
4. Use this activity to review vocabulary related to directions and landmarks.
Presentation and Practice - Activity 1: Reading Comprehension - Map Directions
Instructions:
Read the following short texts describing distinct locations on the map. Answer the questions that follow each text based on the information provided. Work individually or in pairs.
1. Text: You are at the Jazz Club. Walk straight ahead for two blocks, then turn left at the intersection. The Froyolo will be on your Left.
Questions:
a) Where is the person currently located?
b) How can they get to the Froyolo?
2. Text: You are at the Zoo. Go past the playground and continue walking until you reach the traffic lights. Turn right, and the supermarket will be on your left.
Questions:
a) Where is the person starting from?
b) How can they find the supermarket?
Presentation and Practice - Activity 2: Writing Exercise - Giving Directions
Instructions:
Imagine you are giving directions to someone who wants to find a specific location in your city. Write a paragraph providing clear and concise instructions on how to get there. Use the vocabulary and phrases related to giving directions. Share your paragraph with a partner and give feedback on the clarity and accuracy of the directions.
Production/evaluations – Activity 3: Role-play - Asking and Giving Directions
Instructions to work in pairs.
One student will play the role of a lost tourist asking for directions, and the other will play the role of a local providing directions. Use the vocabulary and phrases learned in class to engage in a conversation and help the tourist reach their destination. Switch roles and repeat the activity.
