R E VISIONING GIBSIDE exp r essin g d isco ver ies Observatory & Botanical Research Centre
An estate in the Derwent Valley in North East England. It is between Rowlands Gill, Tyne and Wear and Burnopfield, County Durham. Gibside was previously owned by the Bowes-Lyon family. It is now a National Trust property. A new intervention to alter and re-vision Gibside Stables and its environs to allow the National Trust to realize their ambition to develop Gibside. Stables as a destination in its own right; expressing discoveries, considering the rich history and / or ecology as a driver for a future vision for the site. The idea of an observatory inside the stables, a unique and eminently landscaping object located in a stunning 18th century landscape and Georgian design estates. A walkway in between the stables and observatory through the cafĂŠ as a resting hub after the exploration of Gibside. The aim is to invite visitors to Gibside stables, featuring a series of rare plants, along with new intervention in Woodlands used both by researcher and public all year round.

GIBSIDE STABLES Gibside Hall (and estate) is the ancestral home of the Bowes Lyons, linking it directly to the current royal family. The large estate boasts a number of buildings and managed landscapes and is home to a wide range of wildlife. The stables block The stables block is the estates secondary visitor hub and is the largest enclosed building accessibly to visitors on the estate. The flora and fauna in Gibside provides a great opportunity for visitor to get closer to observe and share new areas of plants. Structures were placed around the woodlands according to the distribution of the rare plants in Gibiside.
GIBSIDE WONDERS OF NATURE TRAIL In this proposed design, a nature walking trail promotes the visitors to great outdoor for a greater appreciation for the environment, especially to the rare plants in the woodlands. Exploration and information exchange within the woodlands is part of the journey all the way to the stables and observatory. Distribution of rare plants in Gibside woodlands

R E HABITAT ASSEM BLY HOUSE t o in h ab it o r d well ag ain Fashion House
55-57 Westgate Road, Newcastle. The site is now home of Newcastle Arts Centre’s office, Details art material’s store, and a picture framing department. It has been a centre for merchants and craft guilds, recreation and entertainment with taverns, theatres and assembly rooms. A cultural centre for the Newcastle Arts Centre as a facility for enthusiats, amateur or seasoned artist, crafts people and artisanal trades suc as artist, writers, musicians, printmaker, dancers, woodmakers, textiles or metal working or alike to volunteer, meet, work, share and learn. As proposed, it is used as a fashion house as contemplate the boundaries between art | craft | design | leisure. The early cellars are built from stone and provided the foundations for a timber framed building with brick infill. The house was recased in brick in the late 17th Century and recased in stone in the 1770’s.
17
CONCEPT The idea derived from art and craft guild in the 16th century. Different types of guild such as cordwainers and gloves maker, weavers, dyers. It was then categorized into fashion industry. The concept developed from the structure of the central wall and the loose fabric structure. From idea to production to display; from complicated to simplified. A fashion design studio and exhibition centre- A place where young fashion designer meet, showcase and promote their work.
The form of the structures adapted from the previous concept model. Timber structures were largely used, in two different ways: in the vertical and horizontal form. Timber structures were spread out from the top floor to the ground floor with the idea of “fashion’s design process” ; separating the private and public in the horizontal form while making use of the sunpath. The arrangement of the structures are from complicate to simplify, from the east to the west.

SEEDS OF AN IDEA g ib sid e live p r o ject Pavilion
Working in partnership with the National Trust, a live funded project to develop ideas that resulted an exhibiton and a selected scheme in the walled garden. The proposed design is adopted from the thematic directives: to take visitors on a journey through the various stories associated with and the uses of the walled kitchen garden and the productive growth as a contributory narrative of the estate since its creation in 1733. Starting with the entrance, begin the journey by reusing the original entrance. The timber flooring act as a pathway to give direction for the visitor to experience spaces in walled garden. By entering different spaces allows visitor to follow the engraved text on the timber flooring and tell the stories of the walled garden. Depending on the perspective of the visitor, the installation within the apple border is partly or completely blend into the landscape, blurring the boundary between the installation and the landscape. Timber layers and flooring merged together not only tell the story of the past but also an architectural experience.

C ANTED SCULPTURE SQUARE d ef in e & d esig n wit h elem en t s SOHO & Exhibition
Ths site located at 155 Middle Road, Singapore. The brief called for a two bedroom, three studio SOHO and exhibition room. Canted, which means to give a slanting edge to/to change the direction of suddenly. The keywords was adapted from 48 North Canal Road by WOHA. Canted expressed in the layout plan and the design of the building. The idea was to separate the existing facade and the new extension, however still maintain the elements of design. The original floor levels were retained which were painted in black, whereas the slanting edge and the full height glass wall were the new extension with white and transparency facade.
31
GROUND FLOOR PLAN
The inspiration from 48 North Canal Road office building. The formal architectural language of fractal, triangulated geometry originated from the need to comply with authority requirements.
FIRST FLOOR PLAN
It was separated into two different parts, SOHO and the exhibtion hall. Entrace were both is a slanting direction but in two different way suggest the interaction between the exhibition hall, critque space and SOHO.
THIRD FLOOR PLAN
There was a sudden change of direction in the exhibition hall where from the narrow gallery corridor to the reception counter.
ROOF PLAN
The full height glass wall in the new extension pops up within the site by contrasting the opaque facade of the first and third floor. From the original roof to the canted roof shows a hierarchy and balanced out the proportion of the building.

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING u n p r ed ict ab ilit y d isco ver ies
I enjoy the act of painting with watercolour and exploring it’s beautiful properties. I want always want to be able to accurately know what colour combinations and techniques will produce the outcome I desire and how my paints will react when I do a certain effect. The natural, inherent luminescence caused by the transparency of the medium and the white of the paper and the somewhat unexpected results and the spontaneity.
