ROMA PEREIRA

Handcrafted Wines from Mora, Portugal

The Land: Situated in Mora (a town 100Km to the East of Lisbon) the vineyard has been in the Roma Pereira family for over a century. The vineyard is integrated in the beautiful landscape of the Sorraia Valley on a north facing hillside with sandy soils creating an optimum terroir for creating excellent wines.

The vineyard is very small - only 4 hectares - and the producer (Fernando Toscano) focuses his energy on creating authentic quality wines. The majority of the types of grapes are native (Aragonez, Castelão e Alfrocheiro Preto) apart from Syrah which is known to be of the highest quality in this particular region.

The Producer: Fernando Toscano is a wine producer that firmly believes in optimizing the grapes quality through merging the latest technology with important handcrafted techniques such as manual havesting and grape stomping. He is also a cork producer and is extremely careful in the choice of all materials such as the type and quality of the corks used, the choice of oaks where the wines age, the design of the bottle and all other technical decisions that will impact the evolution of the wine.

The Winemaker: The winemaking is the realm of Pedro Baptista, an award-wining winemaker that won the BLUE WINE MAGAZINE winemaker of the year award in 2010. He studied in the “École Supérieure d’Oenologie” in Montepellier, France where he graduated.

Roma Pereira wines have a very specific profile even within the Alentejo region due to its terroir prone to have a soft Atlantic breeze that gives the wines a distinctive elegance.

The Roma Pereira wines have been aclaimed by national and international critics.
