We draw a foot/cycling path through the river side connecting the points where things can happen, leaving the rest of the margins to his ecological recover.

Then we came back to the subject of the competition and take this construction mass as one among other opportunity points along the river banks. Footpaths that cover a large extention of the river side, cross the abandoned complex cutting the existing construction, offering some parts to install the requested formal program and offering some parts to the process of accelerated naturalization of the valley.

This second group of spaces where left with some existing structures and all the secondary construction where demolished, where it was possible the floor where turn permeable. This process intended to turn the space a support available to future appropriations through community engagement process.

detailed survey on spatial occupation approaching to the understanding of the existing place.

This house was already a special place, with a dense environment due to his memories, due to his rural neighborhood. The need to improve the house commodities strikes with the need to maintain the consistence of its atmosphere. Chirurgical and low budget interventions make this a long term experimental project, with the first physical changes appearing now

A Five Stars Hotel with 17 000m2 in the Valley of Douro River, a sensitive place, with prevision of future mass construction.

The project pretends to save some of the morphologic characterization of the place. We devide a heavy program into several volumes intending to mantain the topography of the valley.

27

The base of the complex articulates the public program. From these base up, five buildings rise: four towers that receive the rooms and suites and a fifth volume that receives a conference center and a restaurant. There are a lower store in which the hotel services communicate.

COLECTIVE

HOUSING

Porto, Portugal 2008-2009 | Project Studio III development of a housing complex Professor: Rui Ramos, Arch

30

This proposal explores the idea that the house is just support for a home, so it has to be able to receive the appropriation, some margins belongs only to the inhabitant.

31

The street have a value in itself, his characteristics are saved: the continuity and a controlled drawing. As in other points of the project, the street facade redesigns the typical Oporto’s house builds, a long and narrow occupation of the ground. We can recognize a modular unity of six meters which is intercalated with a two meters gap, this scheme pretends to expand the availabilities of the traditional model maintaining the same sense of scale.

The common park is design to be adaptable to diverse uses, even the public ones if needed. This space is developed as an extension of domestic routines. The facade to the common park is built with a set of balconies that extend the house to the exterior, allowing the sense of neighborhood.

The institutional event calls for installations on Patrimony and Light. We made a statement on the present city life, where cycling only now starts to become a habit, where local community gets an intense relation with foreign visitors. The pedestrian is led to an unexpected and good humored encounter with strangers, with a common and fully futile goal of giving light to a pale lamp-post whose lighting becomes stronger with a greater intensity of pedaling.

Architectural tools of drawing and annotation were allied to the audio record and photographic report.

This project works on the recognition of the value of the long term inhabitants of the Porto historic center, threatened with various challenges – such as real estate speculation, poverty, gentrification. The survey of the domestic space of a group of homes identifies the permanent inhabitation as the living link between the material heritage and the present time of a place.

The result of the survey where displaced in the public space in front of the houses. This peculiar display is in line with the valorization of the immaterial dimension of the permanent inhabitation that stands behind the façade.

39

ABSTRACT. The question ‘’what makes a home?’’/’’what a home makes?’’, title of this dissertation, further than inquire us about the components of all kinds that get together to make home happen, lead us to the recognition of ’home’ as a subjectivity producer. Assuming ‘home’ as an expressive realization – more than a material work or a set of uses – we propose a research on the role of architecture in the construction of a home. Recognizing the inhabitant´s territory, the architect must find the expansion fields of his work, in the way of get closer to the inhabitant’s needs and wishes.

40 40

The approximation to the subjective dimension witch home is simultaneously product and producer is made through the cartography self-inhabitation experience. The visit to the inhabited homes pretends to find in its various dimensions – spacial structure, occupation, routines, habits, environments and maturation process – forms of availability of the material construction to the inhabitant territorial realization. Such forms, in their turn, will be evaluated as architectural models, as elements to be part of the architectural lexis with which the constructed space is though and produced. The heterogeneousness of the study’s contents lead to the production of various sets of records, with which this work is set up.

DOMESTIC GREEN HOUSE

Serra d’Aire Portugal 2011-2012 experimental project an constrution co-authorship with Mónica Loureiro and António Mangas

42

This tiny greenhouse is simultaneously object and result of an academic thesis. It explores the possibilities of the bricolage in the way that it enables to expand inhabitation experience. Uses junkyard material to build a structure that is covered with plastic. The junkyard organization, the choice of the pieces to use, the ensemble of the parts, the living and maintenance were all part of a reflection on the availabilities of recycling and re-assembling process as well as on the subjectivity of the building act.
