The aim was to make the plot as profitable as possible in terms of number of houses and construction area, taking into account all the constraints and municipality rules.
The initial challenge was to organise the plot layout along the slope and guarantee the implantation of six contemporary houses surrounded by green spaces with street connection, on foot and by vehicle.
It was also important to consider the repetition of the ground and first floors designs to save costs and to maintain an overall image.
The ground floor consists of the common areas and there are also two covered outdoor living areas as an extension of the indoor space. The first floor comprises the master suite facing south and three suites facing east and west with balconies with pergolas. All the houses have a lift and a private basement with parking spaces, laundry, storage/ technical areas, an extra suite and a flexible room with sunlight exposure through patios. A private outdoor space with a south-facing swimming pool was also created in each house.
The concept of the ground and first floors took into consideration the relationship with the movement of the sun throughout the day. For this reason, the south elevation is almost entirely uncovered and connected to the outside, with views over the sea and the bay of Cascais.
The east and west elevations are more protected by glazing set back from the terraces and have an inverse design while the north elevation is more enclosed for protection from the north wind, dominant wind in the region.
On the flat roof there are also light inlets, through skylights and pergolas over the balconies, as well as access to a viewpoint terrace.

In order to establish a contemporary image, the materials chosen as finishing and the equipments are of high quality. On the outside, exposed concrete and large minimalist glazing stand out. Inside, the flooring is made of oak wood or ceramic tiles, both of large dimensions. My responsibilities in this project started at the concept design and planning application stages and then I developed the construction and detail drawings. I also participated in the client meetings, the handover of the project to the contractor and in the construction follow-up.

The Verdizela House is a singular presence in an essentially residential neighbourhood located in Seixal.
It is a bespoke new build house commissioned by a family who united two plots of land in order to create a bigger house with a permanent relationship with the exterior.
The concept is based on the design of two perpendicular buildings, a single-family house and leisure quarters.
A central outdoor area is defined by the layout of these buildings, with a great solar exposure and wind protection where there is free space for activities and a large swimming pool.

All the spaces in the project have some connection to the outside. About the house, the ground floor has an entrance hall that connects immediately with the garage, the staircase and the living and dining room, then a bathroom, a kitchen, a laundry and an office/bedroom.
Upstairs there are three suites facing south with independent access to balconies, always with a view over the garden.
The leisure quarter is composed of a barbecue area and a TV room, a complete bathroom and a gym oriented to the rear.
My responsibilities on this project were co-authoring the concept design, developing and submitting the planning application and developing a simplified technical design for the tender stage.
The plot is located in Sesimbra, on a south facing hillside. It is an individual project designed in sympathy with the land in which it is located, incorporating infinite sea views.
On the site there is an existing property which is to be demolished in order for this project to proceed. Pedestrian and vehicle access are both at street level with the site rising away steeply which lends itself to underground parking. External staircase provides access to the living areas.
The floors overlap to create a striking external appearance which allows light transfer and large balconies where the fantastic sea views can be fully appreciated.
The lower levels of the building are utilitarian and external living areas incorporating the swimming pool while the upper floors provide the living accommodation.
My responsibilities in this project was to develop a solution from concept through to planning application submission. I also participated in the client meetings.

The development comprises four adjacent plots in Cascais, approximately 30 km from Lisbon. The brief was to develop four semi-detached houses.
To comply with each plot restrictions, the houses are distributed over three floors with a square plan. Where the lower levels are utilitarian and external living areas incorporating the swimming pool and garage while the upper floor provides the living accommodation with a balcony to appreciate the view to the mountains.
From the beginning the concept was to create four houses that melt into two. Therefore, externally each house is cladded with two bands of vertical lath in treated wood that will accentuate the scale and sense of unity between the houses. My responsibilities in this project were to assist the team in the planning application stage and submission.
The Carcavelos Residences are a group of six university houses for students in a neighbourhood near the Nova School of Business and Economics. Each house has the capacity for eight students, and each student has access to an individual and private bedroom equipped with a bathroom, workplace, storage, and a balcony.
On the ground floor are the kitchen and dining areas connected to the outdoor terrace, the swimming pool and the access to the parking area for vehicles and bicycles.
In the lower floor are a generous living room, toilet, and common outdoor patio.
My role in this project was to support the team in the concept design and the planning application phases, where we had to comply with the legislation on this type of program.
Before and After Urban Intervention models
General Requalification Plan
With the Master Thesis “Riverfronts” theme the work revolves around Porto Brandão. A historical urban centre on Lisbon south bank of the river Tagus. Characterized as an isolated valley, with a surrounding mixed-use occupation, consisting of forest, agriculture and industry, with a traditional ferry connection to Lisbon.
The main thrust of the project is to create a new centrality in the river Tagus with a riverfront endowed with new uses, equipments, accessibility and urban dynamics. In which renovation and urban renewal operations are applied to buildings as well as public space, in the pursuit of its revitalization.
This project arises from the objective of understanding the application of sustainable urban development, the different current intentions on the riverside fronts and how to approach the concepts of urban intervention in an isolated historical center, with special attention to the attributes of the public space.
