Hello, My name is JoĂŁo Carvalho, I am a portuguese designer graduated in the University of Aveiro and Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. I have interest for different areas of design and industry: Furniture and Home Accessories; Electronic Devices; Urban Furntiure; Hospital and Laboraty Equipment; Work Tools. I work essentially with Solidworks, Cinema 4D, Rhinoceros, Fusion 360, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, Illustrator e InDesign.

Box to box Urban furniture Box to box is a modular and versatile collection developed to adapt to the already existing Sit’s Box benches, to create dynamic and continuos configurations in the urban space. This collection is made of concrete and it’s composed by various products, as the bicycle rack B Park, the circular bench Round B, the Box W versions with a wood finish sitting, the dynamic Box V’s, and also the Box benches and planters. www.abousit.com

Joey Outdoor furniture Outdoor furniture collection developed for Zenda outdoor brand. Joey is a simple and relaxed furniture collection, made of solid wood, where it is possible to use different types of wood. The line consists of a set of sofas and low tables, sunbeds, dinning table and chair, as well as high tables and high stools for exterior bars, rooftops and restaurants. www.zenda.pt

3Line Urban Furniture 3Line is an urban furntiture collection with a set of urban benchs, papper bin and bycile parking. These urban elements consists in a redesign and re-interpretation of comun urban wood objects, that aims to use color and textures, as also creating a versatile constructive solution where the main contruction is metalic, making use of planned cut and binder process, in order to fit in the processes and materials used by Norchapa / Leets company. www.leetsdesign.com

5008R Portuguese Chair Revisited Chair 5008R consists in a reinterpretation of the traditional Portuguese chair “Gonçalo”, having as a premise the possibility of being used in outdoor and public interior spaces, as well as in domestic environments. Such versatility is due to its metallic tubular structure, which allows to adopt two types of seat / back, which through its different shapes and varied materials, such as metal, wood, cork, as well as canvas, makes it possible to creation of a single object adaptable to different contexts and scenarios of use.

Trilha Toy shelter Trilha is a “toy shelter” that can be configured in many different ways, following the spontaneity of children’s imagination and also being part of the play itself, by combining protection and fun. Trilha is also a stimulus for children’s creativity and motor skills.

Nisa vase Aromatic herbs vase This vase aims to enhance and reinterpret a traditional pottery technique practiced in Alentejo, the Pottery of Nisa. However, in this pot, other cultural aspects of the region were taken into account in order to offer added value on the product, emphasizing its regional and traditional character. The idea was to create a pot of domestic cultivation for armotic herbs, one of the most valuable elements in Alentejo gastronomy.

Org3 Washbasin Washbasin Org3 cames from a challenge created by bathroom products company Cifial, by making a set of a suspended lavatory and ceramic storage columns. Org3 aims to be a washbasin for storage in small spaces, allowing its customization, according to the costumer preferences and needs. Its columns consist in repetion of the same module, making it possible to use it as a complete column washbasin, as halfcolumn washbasin, or simply as a suspended washbasin.

Pop-up Shelter Touristic Bus Shelter Short-term project to development a tourist bus shelter. Pop-Up Shelter is a bus shelter that provides interaction with the user, provivinding interaction with the top protection, working as a shelter, as well as a meeting point, serving as an orientation point in urban space. The interaction to open and close the protection when it is not in use, turns the produtc into a less evasive solution in space. However, a strategic reflection on the placement points would be necessary, ensuring their use by tourists. As a way to support the bus stop, it would be possible to incorporate billboards, allowing spaces for advertising.

Bahco Standard Saw Handle Saw handle developed in response of thebriefing launched by Bahco company in Sweden, where the main goal was to present a redesign of the existing standard model of the brand. The developed handle intends to be an improved ergonomical solution witth greater comfort, presenting zones of easy adaptation and placement of the hand, as well as offering a textured zone for greater precision and grip, with the application of an elastomer as second material.

eMit Meeting Clock Meeting Clock is a project developed for a briefing launched by the portuguese company Sonae, where the objective is to improve and optimize meetings and brainstorming sessions. The shape of the object consists of a semi sphere with a luminous time controller stipulated for the meeting, as well as a time counting in seconds, in order to give better time couting feedback. However, the Meeting Clock can also optimize meetings through its control command, as well as the transmission of image and sound of the computer, only needing to connect one USB cable.

Felino S-Pro Mixer semi-profissional Felino Project developed with FEUP and Felino company, in order to designing a semi-professional kitchen mixer robot. The idea was to focus on functional and interactive issues with users, exploring the different production processes existing in the company, and also adding questions related to the internal product’s architecture, such as the layout and interaction between exterior and the different internal components and mechanisms.

Tatami Chair Lounge chair The essence of this Lounge chair is the use of the typical Japanese Tatami rug, known as the traditional Japanese floor, used in tea ritual, as also as the Futon, a traditional Japanese rug also used as a bed and resting place. So the idea is not only to use a comfortable material to sit and rest, but also a biodegradable material, applying it in a global perspective, in this case in the form of a Lounge-Chair, a typical Western object that responds the same functions of the material, sit and rest.

SleepPal Rest accessory “Sleeppal� is a joyful rest and confort companion. The need for almost total darkness is met by the eye cover, while the cap shape not only provides great comfort and warming , but also serves as a compact storage for the accessory.

Taskt Low table basket Taskt is a support table / storage basket that is meant to be used in a living room around the sofa. It Can be used as a coffee table, support table, storage basket or even as a seat. Its construction is made of wood and uses burel, a portuguese mateiral, or felt as a textile material to create interlaced elements with a smooth touch and some flexibility. Rapidly developed concept of a low table, which also works as storage basket for the company Boa Safra. Short term work to develop proposals and concepts for the company.

Lade Charriot / Stand Lade is a charriot, a typical storage object, with a zone for a temporary placement of clothes or objects, similar to a stairs. It can be used in various spaces of the house, such as, bedroom, entrance wall or other transition space, such as a hallway or even in a dining room. Rapidly developed concept of a charriot / shelf for the company Boa Safra. Short term work to develop proposals and concepts for the company.

Tansuy Wood Sideboard Wooden sideboard inspired by the old Portuguese furniture and having as reference the typical Japanese furniture “Tansu”, combining the idea of storage boxes, which through the sliding system, also function as drawers. The small detailing of the wood not only aims to be a reinterpretation of the furntiture’s old protections and metal joints.

Concept for company WeWood 2015



Bottle Porto. Águas do Porto Bottles designed for Águas do Porto contest, in order to promote the tap water consumption in the city of Porto. The briefing consisted of two bottles, a 1.5L glass, to be served at the table, and a 0.5L plastic, to be portable. The concept of both bottles resided in the use of the bottle ‘s material to represent an arch bridge, representig four of the six bridges that embrace the Douro river, and which also are icons in the city of Porto - Infante Dom Henrique bridge, Ponte D. Maria Pia bridge , D. Luís Bridge bridge and Arrábida Bridge.
