Report of one´s experience abroad – Málaga My name is Lena, I study economy with core area communication. In the winter semester i used the possibility to study abroad for one year. I always wanted to go to Malaga, one of the most beautiful cities in Andalusia where I could learn spanish, get to know the cultur and the southern way of life. Depending on your knowledge you will be seperated in different classes in which you will learn grammar and communication skills. This is also the perfect chance to connect with new people here in Malaga.
Most of the students live in the city centre, near the faculty of Economy. Living in the centre gives you the opportuniy to experience the spanish way of life directly in front of your house. Looking for a place to stay? There are two possibilities for looking for a flat. The first one is the most common one – on the internet. If you have already some friends there maybe they can help you to find a good place to stay. The rents are different and depending on the size and location of the flat. You can expect around 200 – 250 € and additional costs around 30 €. Please be careful booking over a private person, there could arise unexpected difficulties. The easiest way is booking a Spanish course , as I did and also a flat directly with your Spanish language school. Don´t be scared during your first weeks - in Spain everything is a bit slower and more relaxing. It is totally like the Spanish people use to say „no pasa nada“ or „mañana, mañana“. Best solution – take over the Spanish mentality and get used to it – that is the only way you can enjoy your stay!
Malaga and Andalusia offer a various amount of leisure time activities. In Malaga you learn more about the history of this beautiful city for example at the “Alcazaba” or the “Teatro Romano”. If you are interested in art and cultural offers there are around 25 different museums to visit, the most popular one is for sure the Picasso Museum. Weekly the Spanish School organices free guided tours through the city with smaller groups. The beach of Malaga “Malagueta” is the most famous and most popular meeting point for young people. Especially after studying at university this is the place to spend time with your friends. The Organisation of Alhambra Instituto organizes different events at this beautiful beach. In the evening is the best time to go out into the city centre and enjoy some nice Tapas. There are loads of different Tapas Bars, especially in the side streets there are some nice ones where you can eat and drink in a pleasant atmosphere. Spanish people never stay in one place at night but they keep moving from one to another. Mostly they finish off with going into a club. Except from the nightlife and the delicious food there is also something for the sporty
Along the boardwork there are some “Work Out “ places where you can find plenty of Spanish people working out in the evening. During the day it is just too warm. Also the rest of Andalusia is worth a visit – there is so much you have to see! Helpful is the good andalusian bus network, from Malaga you can go easily to other cultural and beautiful cities of Andalusia for example Granada, Sevilla or Ronda. Of course you can travel from Malaga through whole Spain. Most of the time it´s even cheaper to book a flight (for example with Ryanair or Vueling). If you are not travelling on your own its sometimes worth it to rent a car and share the costs with the others because in Spain its quite cheap to rent a car. But enough talking! Enjoy Spain, a wonderfull country with great people, who are welcoming you with open arms and a lot of delicious Tapas!
Enjoy!
