Jocelyn has 4 best friends: Tony, Tammy, Sammy, and Sue. Each one of Jocelyn's friends has something they really like to do.
Tony likes to swim. Tammy rides her bike. Sammy does gymnastics. Sue likes to hike.
Saturday comes around once a week and all of Jocelyn's friends are gone. They are each doing what they like to do and Jocelyn finds herself all alone.
One sunny Saturday, Jocelyn decides to take a chance. She makes up her mind to try something new. She decides she wants to dance.
Jocelyn asks her Mom and Dad to show her how to start. Her parents take her to a dance school where she can learn about the art.
At the school, the teacher lets Jocelyn try dance classes one by one. “There are many different ways to dance," she says, "so this will be lots of fun." l
The first class Jocelyn takes is Ballet. Each student has on ballet slippers and tights. There are lots of new words for her to learn. The dancing is soft and light.
Second, Jocelyn tries Modern dance. She takes off her ballet slippers to learn. With a deep breath and a smile on her face, she learns many jumps and turns.
The third class is Jazz. Jocelyn learns to move her body with lots of control. In her jazz shoes she dances to the rhythms of jazz music with lots of soul.
The fourth class is Tap with shoes that make noise! Tah tah tah tah tap to the beat! She taps with her toes. She taps with her heels. She learns to make music with her feet.
The last class Jocelyn takes is Hip-Hop. She wears her sneakers for this one. She moves fast and slow, then high and low, to cool music. It is lots of fun.
Jocelyn does not want to go home. She is learning so much about dance. There are many more dances from all over the world. She wants to give them all a chance.
At the end of the day as Jocelyn leaves hand in hand with Dad and Mom, she looks around at the other dance classes and tries her best to stay calm.
Through a window she sees dancers doing lots of quick steps with their feet. The dancers are dressed in colorful fabrics and drummers are making the beats.
All week, while she is at school Jocelyn talks about her fun. She tells her friends about the dance classes and how she cannot choose just one.
Another Saturday comes around for Jocelyn, Tony, Tammy, Sammy, and Sue. This Saturday, each friend has something they are excited to do!
Tony swims. Tammy rides. Sammy flips about. Sue hikes. Jocelyn dances. No one is left out.
As time goes on Jocelyn still cannot choose just one dance style to learn. So she spends her Saturday mornings giving all of the classes a turn.
Because Jocelyn loved to dance and was having such a ball, she did not choose just one dance class. She chose to keep learning them all!
There are so many cool things that you can learn to do. Learning is a lot of fun. Go and try something new.
