Summer Programs Abroad 2oo9 Fact Sheet Director of Summer Programs Abroad: Curtis M. Robison. (B.A. Bates, M.A. Brown) Mr. Robison began the Summer Programs Abroad in 199o, and they have run continuously ever since. A veteran of independent schools, he has taught at Loomis ChaVee where he currently chairs the Math Department; Deerfield Academy; The American School in Switzerland; The School Year Abroad program in Rennes France sponsored by Andover, Exeter and St. Paul’s; and in the Summer Programs of Choate Rosemary Hall, TASIS England, Kingswood-Oxford and, of course, Loomis ChaVee where he served for eight years as Director of Summer Programs. In both his studies and his professional life, he has sought out international educational experiences. He is committed to expanding the horizons of students through cultural and linguistic immersion programs. Mr. Robison is currently on sabbatical. Summer in Spain Summer in Spain Coordinator: Sergio Carranza (Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from University of Barcelona) We are delighted to have Sergio Carranza return for his 20th summer as Coordinator of Loomis ChaVee’s Summer in Spain program. Sergio is a native of Barcelona with a very successful career teaching Spanish in the United States. Over the past 20 years Mr. Carranza has taught at St. Mark’s School, Exeter, the Loomis ChaVee School and for the past fifteen years at the Collegiate School in New York City. Sergio and his wife, Elyse Lau, an American who is fluent in Spanish, are joined in Spain by three native Spanish teachers. Sergio’s enthusiasm for Spain and things Spanish is contagious. Sergio combines a great sense of responsibility and attention to the details of the program along with a great sense of fun and delight in sharing his native culture with his students. The result is a wonderfully successful program which consistently fills long before the stated deadline. Mr. Carranza is happy to answer detailed questions about the program. Dates of departure and return Depart: June 24 to arrive in Barcelona on the morning of June 25 Return: July 27 from Madrid Cost $5600 includes tuition, all meals and housing and the excursions. It does not include airfare to and from Spain, each student is responsible for arranging his or her flight to arrive in Barcelona on the morning of June 25. Sergio Carranza will leave from New York for Barcelona on the evening of June 24. We will make his flight itinerary known early on so that those who wish to arrange to travel to Barcelona with him on his flight have that opportunity. The departure is from Madrid on the morning of July 27. Application deadline Application Form, Teacher and Adviser Recommendations, High School Transcript and the $25 fee (waived for Loomis ChaVee students) should be received by May 1. We use rolling admissions; in recent years we have filled by March.
Summer in France The Summer in France program described in the brochure is once again coordinated by Pascal Monteville of School Year Abroad. The Summer in France program, however, is now directly administered by School Year Abroad and so the applications to this program must be made directly to School Year Abroad. Payment schedule and refund policy A non-refundable $5oo deposit is due within 3 weeks of acceptance to confirm your place. Full payment is due by May 2o. Refund of 5o% for all those who cancel after full payment but prior to departure. No refund is available after the program begins.
