The Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders (GBAHB) Fall Community & Home Tour allows you to tour newly built and developed homes and communities across the metro Birmingham area. More than 40 new homes in numerous communities feature something for every lifestyle and age this year, providing the opportunity to explore all of the amenities these communities have to offer.

“The Fall Community & Home Tour gives people the opportunity to tour some of Birmingham’s most elegant and beautiful new homes and the communities they are in,” tour chairman Marshall Newport says. “With new homes in every price range and communities across Birmingham, people often discover exactly where and what they’d like to see in their next home.”

The featured attraction of the 2016 Fall Community & Home Tour is the GBAHB Showcase Home in the community of Riverwoods. This home will feature the latest in home design, décor, technology, and sustainability. The Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders Fall Showcase Home

When driving through the serene community of Helena, a feeling of calmness and elegance waves over you like you have just come home. This up-andcoming city is still brimming with historic charm with its early 20th century architecture and locals shopping in the farmer’s market and downtown area. So when Scott Underwood and Sarah Waltz of Prominence Homes began planning the Fall Community and Home Tour showcase home, for the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders, they knew it had to encompass the same nuances as the community. “Helena is an amazing community, known for its large wooded estate lots but with the coziness of walking trails,

community pool, and closeness of small town, USA,” says Waltz, production manager for Prominence Homes. “Our number one goal was to build a home that represents the community in which it sits.” Indeed, the expansive 3,200+/- square-

foot residence is fitted on a private, lush estate in the Riverwoods subdivision. The exterior palette is a welcoming combination of soft grays with cool undertones to blend in with its surroundings. And keeping with the family-friendly atmosphere of the neighborhood, the backyard can accommodate for a growing family’s activities. Designing the interior was anything but a challenge for the seasoned builder. “We’ve been able to spread our wings with the design. It’s been a great opportunity to work with the newest products available,” says Waltz. Inside, the materials are a combination of soft cool hues, modern technology,

and sophisticated accents. The open floor plan allows an effortless transition between living and dining areas. The showcase home is an impressive three-story, five-bedroom residence. The main level features a modern kitchen with a unique spin on the traditional shaker style cabinets. The cabinetry is complemented by the latest technological appliances creating a functional and aesthetic kitchen. One of Underwood’s favorite design aspects is the “game day” porch that is directly off the kitchen. “There’s a huge wood burning brick fireplace complete with a television and sound bar, making this a perfect place to entertain and enjoy those game days,” say Waltz. Other key features on the main level are the custom floor-to-ceiling trimmed fireplace in the living room and the master bathroom shower fixture configuration that will give the space a retreat-like feeling. Upstairs, the four bedrooms and a loft nook will be expertly designed to host a large family or welcomed guests. “To give it a little ‘pop,’ we used sliding barn doors to cover the computer nook and painted them with chalk board paints,” says Waltz. “It’s functional and fun!” Prominence Homes has built and designed a show stopper that will leave visitors inspired. “The old saying holds true, ‘The devil is in the details,’” says Sarah. Each fixture is hung, pulls are installed, and the floors are polished, anticpating the excitement of the Fall Tour.
