sublunar park. academic project, fall 2010 This project required the redesign on a urban scale of a 23 hectare plot of land on Toronto Island which currently houses an airport. Taking advantage of its separation from the city, the intent was to create a noctural park where visitors would be able to leave the city lights and rediscover the celestial. The site becomes a compass to orientate one’s self in relation to the skies. Paths are carved into the site around a sunken observatory in the centre to set a view to time specific celestial occurence. The paths divide the site into segments, each creating a different experience for the visitor.

h2metrO. partner collaborated competition, fall 2008 A collaborative project for the thinkToronto competition called for a new design for the existing subway entrances in Toronto. Our approach was create shelter over the entrance but through the use of different materiality and transparencies, allow for interaction with different weather conditions. During rainfall, the metal roof becomes a instrument which echoes through the underground while the glass allows changing reflections to play.

frame winery. academic project, summer 2009 The site for this project was a 40 acre plot against the edge of Lake Ontario in Niagara-On-The-Lake, Canada. The building was strategically placed against the existing pond to benefit the function of the building while visually connecting the 2 bodies of water. The building itself acts as a device to reveal the site to the visitor through the progression of wine production.

chair for tweedle dee/dum. partner collaborated academic project, fall 2010 A partner collaboration for a structural build course, we were asked to design and construct a chair. Our inspiration came from the characters Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum from Alice in Wonderland. The playful nature of the design was to allow the occupants to compliment and work with each other to achieve optimum comfort level. Construction primarily included the use of a CNC cutter and 8 pieces of 7’x10’ plywood. The pieces were hand sanded and clamped together to create 2 alternating sections. Dowel joints were removable to allow for a lounging configuration.

mass housing. academic project, winter 2010 The 35-hectare site is located in the neighbourhood of Parkdale, Toronto, situated between a busy expressway, pedestrian access is cut off between the neighbourhood and the water. The new 4000 unit mass housing plan consists of key bridges across the site from the existing neighbourhood to the water and buries the expressway underneath whilst placing commercial and green space along the bridges to rejuvenate the site. Vehicles and pedestrians operate on different levels but intersect at programs placed at mjaor level changes on the site such as sunken market squares and drive in theatres.

openbaar interieur case study: erasmus mc ĂŠquipe voor architectuur en urbanisme, amsterdam, 2009 A case study for the Erasmus Hospital in Rotterdam, the project aims to create a new public realm for the empty square and subway entrance located directly infront of the hospital. A sunken square provides an oasis from the street level traffic while simultaneously exposing the underground station to natural light and connecting the surrounding program.
