Become Human

One of biggest challenges we face culturally, if not the biggest, is how internally divided we can be. We want one thing in our hearts, but we fail to follow through with our actions. The greatest of these obstacles in pursuing our dreams and discovering our purpose is our fear of failure. We want to be passionate, but we fear being uncomfortable. We want purpose, but chasing dreams is rarely cost efCyrus Eaton

Love146 is committed to being thoughtful in our responses to the issue of child sex slavery and exploitation. That is why we have carefully crafted our Aftercare solutions to be the most effective in the restoration of lives and the training of caregivers. We are happy to report that we have seen much success in our model of Aftercare.

Children cannot be liberated from bondage only to end up at risk of starvation, homelessness, or being re-traffic ked and exploited. At this very moment, children in brothels around the world could be set free if additional safehomes and trained caregivers existed. The Love146 model of Aftercare strives to be holistic and as such, subscribes to the biopsychosocial model of treatment and care. Love146 implements this model both at the grassroots and at the academic levels. The biopsychosocial model assumes that any form of illness or extremely difficult situation affects the biological, psychological, and social aspects of the person. Therefore, a holistic intervention needs to deal with the damage and potential damage in these three aspects.

“Love & Justice” What. During my travels I have learned the importance of seeing all humans as a equals, as my brothers and sisters, as sons and the creation of God. The story began long time ago, but the echo still is in my ears. I was challenged by God, to “Scream Love” for the voiceless and to “Do Justice” acording to the Bible. I’m glad that I took the challenge and overjoyed that God chose me to do this, to bring awareness and open the eyes of the people though art. Why. I have the reponsibility to do this because I have seen the wounds and the pain in the stories of the people. Their pain and wounds have become mine. For me it is impossible to keep it quiet. They have no voice, they have no rights and they need justice. They have been abused, but they won’t say it. I can do it, you can do it. That’s why I try to connect people to people. People who are will to become the voice and hope for the voiceless. How. Art. I believe in the power of art because art does not work with the brain but with the soul. Art is the most effective way to communicate. `When we use art as a tool to influence the society as whole, the more people involved, the sooner revolution will come.

“Ideas, they have caught me. I’m unable to hide. They have made a nest in my head and they won’t go until I act”

The Need. You are what we need. Young people, passionate people who will make a change in this wolrd. People willing to offer their gifts and talents for others, willing to communicate and to create new ways to bring awareness to society. The Way. It is in our hands. Our generation has to stand up and fight for justice, truth and love. There are two different kind of people - the ones who hear the history and the ones that make history. `if we ignore this, nothing is going to change but I’m positive that if we do something it’s going to echo for eternity. The Challenge. Is to be different, to be the difference when others aren’t. You do it, and when others give up, keep fighting. When others fall, be there to help them, When others hate, love.

Be The Diference In The World. 11

Liar, Crazy or the Real Deal

- John 10:30 “I and the Father are one.” This is one of many statements of Jesus claiming he has the authority of God.

- This argument is one that is often brought up by people who were trying to disprove Christianity (ie. C.S. Lewis, Josh McDowell, etc). Basically it revolves around the ever so popular opinion that Jesus was a prophet/good teacher but not in fact God/the Son of God.

- Lets take a look at Jesus being a liar. The son of a carpenter knows the scriptures well enough to make up a story about his life and convinces thousands of people of his story and in particular 12 of them so much so they continue his lie (i’ll get to why this is necessary momentarily. He then goes around and gets arrested for this lie, knowing full well that his punishment is death, and continues the lie in front of the very people that could save him. He is then put to death and his disciples make up a story about him rising again, they convince 500 other people and a guy who was going around slaughtering them for their lie(Paul) and all 12 of them suffer horribly for it. 11 of them enduring terrible executions and 1 suffering horribly before being exiled alone.

- Here’s a quote by Lewis “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

- The second theory that Jesus was crazy, is very similar to the first with the exception that Jesus did not think he was lying. Regardless of if he was demon possessed or any other type of crazy, He actually believed he was the son of God (crazy if you aren’t) and convinced the disciples who then went on lying.

- I see that this argument is a good way of showing people the claim of Jesus being a good moral teacher is wrong, and a good way of showing Him true, but only if we give the whole explanation. If we do not, we leave people with the ideas that Jesus could have just been a liar or Jesus was crazy, but when we look at statistics and what would need to happen in order for the first 2 to be true, the only option is the 3rd and I’ll show you why:

12

from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; He is the resurrection and the life; He is the light of the world. As such He convinced many people of this, was crucified, and resurrected on the 3rd day and appeared to hundreds. So perhaps we’ve been going around giving people the wrong statement. Perhaps we need to phrase it more like this “Jesus cannot simply be a good moral teacher, a liar or a lunatic. He is exactly who he claims to be, he is God.

- Chuck Colson (a man implicated in watergate) had this to say about 12 people keeping a lie for any significant amount of time, “I know the resurrection is a fact, and Watergate proved it to me. How? Because 12 men testified they had seen Jesus raised from the dead, and then they proclaimed that truth for 40 years, never once denying it. Every one was beaten, tortured, stoned and put in prison. They would not have endured that if it weren’t true. Watergate embroiled 12 of the most powerful men in the world – and they couldn’t keep a lie for three weeks. You’re telling me 12 apostles could keep a lie for 40 years? Absolutely impossible.” - So the only option left is He is exactly who He said He was; He was the Son of God; He and the Father are one; He is the way, the truth, and the life; He is the living bread which came down

“De alas rotas (Of Broken Wings in English) is a documentary about human trafficking in Central America. Five passionate youth with the mission to bring awareness about this issue.

The story starts when Pablo Jimenez, a photographer from Guatemala went to the border of Nicaragua and Costa Rica to investigate the issue of child prostitution. He ended un meeting a 17

year old boy who had been in protitution since he was 12 years old. This experience sparked a passion in him to start a documentary project that would expose the reality of human trafficking

and prostitution in Central America, as well as bring hope for an escape from this injustice that so many are trapped in.

Twelve months later, his vision has been shared and embraced by 4 other passionate young people, and as a team they have come together to use film and photography to show the face of pros-

titution across Central America. This group of five came to know one another doing mission work

in San Jose, Costa Rica. They are: Anabel Martinez from Mexico, Pablo Jimenez from Guatemala, Joel Duarte M. from Costa Rica, Nicole Howell and Ryan Mackle from United States.

The goal is to reveal a story in each country of Central America that will bring awareness to the

region about the truth behind prostitution, trafficking, and child exploitation in their own com-

munities. Even more, to capture testimonies of redemption and hope from real people that have been enslaved and broken, so that the people of these countries will rise up with a desire to bring justice. They want to mobilize the people of Central America to give a voice to the hopeless and bring hope to the broken.

UNEARTHED So... what can we actually do about it? That’s the most frequently asked and most poorly answered question in the entire conversation on sexual exploitation.

But we saw that men were largely absent from the fight on sexual exploitation - so how could a group of us walk away? We decided to dig our heels in and stay. We slowed down, listened and researched how to best engage the men fueling the demand. In this battle, when you get the men, you get everyone.

Three years ago our team returned from a preliminary filming trip. Like most people who return from the front lines of injustice, we battled intense discouragement and frustration because of the sheer enormity of the problem we saw… to the extent that we considered throwing in the towel and parting ways.

Our heartbeat is to see the hearts of men changed - and we want that change to result in a systemic shift in the landscape of sexual exploitation. Join the groundswell of men committed to killing sexual exploitation at its root.

UNEARTHED

There is hope. All it takes is one generation investing in the next generation for the tide to turn on sexual exploitation. We can do for the next generation what wasn’t done for us.

His freedom is gifted to us, then we gift it to the people we know and love. Progressively, our response to our fleshly desires begin to shift and strongholds collapse. Chains break. Bars of iron are broken. When you’re broken free, transfer what you’ve received from God to the next generation. It’s that simple, and it ought to be our primary model for dealing with all forms of human injustice - sexual exploitation included.

Discipleship is life replication - and it’s Jesus’ method for growth in his kingdom. When we spend time with Jesus, the overflow of nutrition we receive from him transfers to the people we’re in relationship with.

Josh Garrels has spent more than a decade crafting music that cuts clean through. Resting in the space between accessibility and honesty, Garrels’ songs wrestle with and celebrate the mystery of faith with authenticity and heart. Cultivating a genre-blending mix of folk and hip hop, Garrels’ music explores themes of compassion, hope, longing, and liberation.

tween was influenced by the landscape of the Pacific Northwest, which Garrels calls, “mysterious and ominous.” A stark contrast to the four seasons he experienced during his youth, Garrels says, “The evergreens, mist, rain, rocky coast, and stretches of uninhabited woods feel wild and untamed. I think the terrain also influences the area’s culture and spirituality. Living here has deeply affected me and my work.”

Music Many of the songs in Garrels’ catalogue evoke natural, visceral imagery, both from the Midwest where he was raised and attended college, and now from his home in Portland, Oregon. From the start of his career, Garrels has chosen to self-record, mix, produce, and distribute records without industry management or label representation, beginning with the lo-fi bedroom recordings Stonetree (2002), Underquiet (2003) and Over Oceans (2006).

Partnering with a number of not-forprofit organizations, Garrels has worked to raise awareness for HOPE International, a microfinance initiative working in developing countries; Invisible Children, confronting the LRA in Northern Uganda; and Light Gives Heat, empowering Africans through encouraging economic sustainability and creative endeavors. Collaborating with Mason Jar Music for the second time in 2011, Garrels filmed the full-length, fan-financed 60-minute musical documentary The Sea in Between on Mayne Island, B.C. Currently in post-production, the film is slated for release in 2012. Garrels is presently composing original scores for film, as well as mentoring and producing music for other artists through his label Small Voice Records. In 2012, Garrels earned a regional Emmy nomination in Music Composition from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his contribution to the soundtrack for And What Remains. He plans to start work on his next album in 2012.

His Work On June 15, 2011, Garrels released his latest effort, Love & War & the Sea In Between. The making of Love & War & the Sea In Between was completely funded through the support of listeners and offered as a free download for one year, garnering 125,000 downloads in the first year after its release. Named the number one album of 2011 by Christianity Today, the magazine described the recording as, “prophetic, incisive, achingly human, and longingly spiritual.” Love & War & the Sea In Be-
