A Journey Through Design Joey Jepson Art 130: Introduction to Design Fall 2023
A Basic Overview Introduction to Design is a class that gives students the opportunity to be able to bring out their creativity and make some amazing projects. The students are able to use many resources that they are able to use to create some unique projects. Students will be able to make projects online using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. The students will have critiques which give them the opportunity to get feedback on their projects to know what could possibly make their project to be a little
Crash Course Crash Course was a fast paced project that involved getting input from your peers or partners. This involed interviewing your partner and having to make an object based off that person’s interests. This is the object I made based off Kenzies interest for watching movies with her friends. It was challenging as we weren’t given much time to complete the project. The project involed showing your unfinished work to your partner and getting If I could redo the project, I would have put in more detail and ask more questions to get more information from my partner. I attempted making a project base off my partner and how they liked to go to the movies, but if I could go back I would try to add more detail and effort. I didn’t like sharing unfinished work as it made me feel as if I didn’t do good enough. Something else that made it hard, was that I didn’t know much about my partner so I didn’t have much to
Dot Line The Dot/Line project was a project that consisted of using dots and lines to generate images for different emotions. The project was done by using only black and gray sheets of paper to use for the dots and lines and would be put on a 4” by 4” piece of paper followed by a 6” by 6” piece of foam core.
This project was a little difficult as this was where you needed to bring out as much creativity as you could. It was hard coming up with different patterns to use that didn’t seem like it was repeated. This project used a term Gestalt, in which I would describe Gestalt as the concept of orgnanizing things to get a better understanding of what we are looking at. This was used in the Dot/Line project as we had to place the dots and lines in a certain way to demonstrate certain emotions that we are trying to put together.
Dot Line Continued One way I might use what I learned from this project is I could make more abstract art pieces. I would be able to do this because I’m not limited to only a few emotions to base the project off of and could come up with different emotions to use.
I chose the word exhausted as this is demonstrating the dots trying to get back together and are exhausted from all of the obsracles in the way of thei reunion
I chose to use the word scarcity, as this piece is demonstrating that there is only a couple dots and lines which shows that there is not a lot on the project but is showing that there is only a lmited number of objects.
With this piece I chose the word chaotic, as the dots are trying to move around but they are limited to only a little space as the lines are preventing them to move much which is making the dots move around chaotically.
Letterforms Letterforms was a project we made that involved choosing a word and making different designs based off of that word on a piece of paper. This consisted of using printmaking while also being able to photocopy and photogrophy.
By working with letterforms I was able to learn how to make and carve linolium stamps to be used for this project. I was also able to learn how to use a photocopier to use on my project to make it more unique.
I found this project to be a little challenging as it was a little difficult to find ways to implement different variations of my word to fit and base it on the word I was using.
Letterforms Continued
LetterForms Continued If I were to continue working on this project I would try to add more versions of my work with different designs that look more unique and intriguing to see. I would also make bigger stamps so I could use them to add different sizes for my letters to take up more space and to be able to add in more detail for my designs. I would also add different backgrounds to implement that relate to my word which would throw a different style for letterforms. I would also try to make my letters look like they were foods like I did with the cookies as it also adds a nice touch to my word. I chose to use the word “Food” as it is something I enjoy becasue I love eating and going out to different restaurants and trying different foods to enjoy.
Iterative Illustrations This was a project that involved picking an object or animal that we would try to make illustrations of using different papers or images. We would put together different cutouts to make an image of the object or animal we are focusing on.
Iterative Illustrations Continued
I found this project challenging because it was hard to only limit yourself to making illustrations based on the pictures you had of your animal. I only had certain pictures of my grizzly bear I did and it was hard to make iterations without having a picture to reference to. If I were to keep working on this project, I would add more iterations and use more photoshop to make the images look better and give a better presentation. I would also add some different iterations so I didn’t have repeats in my project.
PSA Posters The PSA Poster was a project where we had to pick a topic to write about, and we would get assigned a partner to swap topics with and we would give them certain guidelines to follow when making the poster. We would have to make a poster on our partners topic and would gather feedback from them on what looks good and what doesn’t.

I found this a little challenging because I had certain guidelines to follow and found it hard to not use colors and only had a little information to be added into the poster. If I could keep going, I would add more to give the poster more detail and give it better and more designs. I would do this be able to grab attention more and stand out to people.
Vocation Questions What is something you made in the past two years that your proud of? Something I have made in the past two years that I’m proud of would be a project I made in my econ class last year. I had a partner and we had to make a project based off of a fast food restaurant. We decide to do Popeyes as we both loved their food. We had a lot of fun doing this project and got a good grade on it to. If you were garuanteed it would support you financially, what would you want to design or make for a living? I would want to work for a company and design new logos that would be used for the company. I like designing and using technology to make different things or designs and think I would be succesful at it.
