Ormond College Theology Centre For our model of the Ormond College Theology Centre, we focused on the front covered entrance section. This part of the building contains and overhanging roof that is supported by large concrete columns.
We used sections of chopsticks to represent the thick insitu concrete columns at the front of the entrance, as well as the horizontal concrete beam that helps to support the vertical elements, particularly under pressure from buckling (Ching 2008, p.5.04).
We used both a front on detail elevation and a floor plan drawing to help understand the construction method and structure of the building.
This view shows the cantilever of the roof, represented by thick white card, which is supported by the front concrete columns as well as steel beams running under the roof line.
