Juxtaposition Jewels

Luxury Jewelry Retailer

Juxtaposition Jewels is a new Flagship store for a high-end west coast-based Jewelry Retailer. The client intended to use this new store as a chance to re-brand and offer a personalized experience for their new clients in Georgetown, Washington D.C.

At the core of the concept of juxtaposition jewels is to create a space that is heavily inspired by the essence of juxtaposition with the combination of opposing forms, textures, and materials cemented by a cohesive color palette. The goal of this design was to stand out from the historical federalist style seen throughout the Georgetown neighborhood.

Commercial

Architecture Office

2790 Architecture is a new satellite office for a New York City based commercial and educational architecture firm. The client intended to use this new office as a chance to re-brand, respond to ever-changing Covid-19 needs, and redefine the office environment.

At the core of the design concept for this architectural studio space is a personalized work experience. To promote work efficiency, a variety of private and group workspaces will be provided outside of the open office environment. Adjustable furniture, movable privacy glass, customizable lighting schemes and more are some of the additional personalization options that will be designed into these spaces. This allows for each employee to explore the different options given, and create a customized work experience that fits their needs and level of comfortability.

Osprey Medical Center

Primary Care Facility

Osprey Avenue Medical Building is a healthcare facility located in Sarasota, FL. This Building houses two separate internal medicine practices that both include two physicians per office. The design of the space was enhanced by personal research done on Biophilic Design and the needs of the average American nurse.

At the core of the design concept for the Osprey Avenue medical office building is a comfortable and calming patient experience through the implementation of Biophilic Design principles and a neutral material palette. The goal with the design to create an environment that improves the patient’s healing process while creating a lasting impact making them come back for more care.

M-R-S

Mobile Refugee Shelter

2022 IDEC Student Design

Competition

Numerous individuals immigrate to America for a variety of reasons but with the pandemic still having severe economic impacts on many, these motivations have deepened. In Mexico, the pandemic caused a 21-year inflation high, forced 3.8 million people into poverty, and sent 44% of the country’s population destitute. These heightened economic hardships combined with worsened gang violence and crime, the American labor shortage, and an abundance of other factors pushed many Mexicans to migrate to the U.S.

The core design concept for M-R-S is to provide refugees with a safe and comfortable temporary shelter while still being compact, versatile, and portable. This concept highlights the need for mobile housing solutions that can follow the ever-changing refugee population and their needs. M-R-S was designed with a central structure on the property with communal bathrooms and a food distribution center in mind. This combination of mobile and built structures limits the need for on-site construction and the time and money constraints that come with it.

Narrative

The Morales family is a prime example of the difficult decision and journey to leave for America that many Mexican families are having to face. Both mother, Elena, and father, Raul, lost their jobs during the pandemic and weren’t able to recover despite their best efforts. The lack of reliable and well-paying jobs forced Raul and their eldest son, Gabriel (16), to work long hours of dangerous physical labor. Gangs in their areas, preying on the vulnerable situation that the Morales and many Mexican families were in, began to police neighborhoods recruiting children and teens to aid in their various illicit markets. Elena and Raul, hoping to shield their children from the horrors of their new reality began planning their migration to America. With the overarching financial burden of transporting the family to the U.S.-Mexico Border, the Morales’s made a deal with one of the local gangs to ensure their safe travels with father Raul staying to pay back their debt. Elena, Gabriel, youngest son Mateo (7), and dog chico, left Chiapas with a group of other migrants to head to the Texas-Mexico border.

Brazilian Apartment

Single-Family Unit

This project is an apartment located in Pelotas, RS, Brasil. The client is a traditional family of four with two young children looking to renovate their current space to be more open while enhancing the Brazilian Midcentury Modern style of the building.

At the core of the design concept for the Brazilian apartment is a design that fits the needs of a modern family while respecting the building’s and location’s history and culture. The goal of the design is to create an environment that fosters connections within the family while providing an open communal space for entertaining. A curved glass block wall, walnut wood, the original windows, and other design accents were used to highlight the building’s 1970s origins. Custom built-in cabinetry and shelving line the interior walls to provide the necessary storage without visual clutter.
