Our Aims Member Services • To provide networking opportunities • To facilitate the exchange of information on development issues and services • To provide capacity development opportunities for council members • To develop, promote and share best practices in the sector

We carry out our mission by providing our members with networking opportunities, information sharing, training, and representing their interests in dealing with government and other parties.

We accomplish this by focusing on:

Public Engagement

Organizational Development

• To support members’ efforts in educating the public about international development • To increase the profile of BCCIC and its members with the public and media

• Member services • Public engagement • Organizational development.

To improve the organizational capacity of BCCIC so it is more efficient and effective in responding to the needs of its membership

Member Services

One of our key objectives for this past year was to reach out to organizations based in communities in the interior and Northern BC. We are increasing our networks and developing new partnerships and greater synergy with NGOs and community-based organizations. This growth in our networks is providing opportunities to collaborate with a larger number and greater diversity of organizations in our programs for International Development Week, public engagement and the expansion of our membership activities to a larger community. This also allows our Vancouver-based members to engage these partners in expanding their programs outside of Vancouver.

The results...

• New networks are now established in Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, Comox Valley, and Victoria. • New partners in the tertiary sector include the Social Work Faculty at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, and the International Development Society (IDS) at the University of Northern BC (UNBC) in Prince George. • A new partnership in Comox with the World Community Development Education Society (WCDES) has enabled WCDES’ annual film festival, now in its 18th year, to have a youth component.

Some of our new partners include… Prince George International Development Society UNBC Northern Uganda Development Fund Immigrant Multicultural Services Society Kelowna Global Citizen Kelowna Week Development Millennium Challenge Kamloops Kamloops Immigrant Services Thompson Rivers University Annual Conference - Making a Difference: The Role of Canadians in International Development
