Green living Sustaniable architecture Together with: Maria Siöström semester 5, 2015 Project description: This course emphasised the importance of social-, and to some degree economical sustainability. It was a creative course where we worked with building and city, on different levels of scale, but with the overarching goal to draw a building that would contribute with something new to the cityscape. Project interpretation: We associated the concept of social sustainability with “An inclusive city”, and came to the conclusion that some socioeconomic groups are neglected in the portrayal of our cities. Nursing homes are often located in the outskirts of the city, causing isolation and restrains the residents from being a part of the everyday social life. In this project we wanted to change this perspective and prioritize the people in need of care, and create a dignified home for these people. However, Grönbo- Stadsbo not only gives the residents a better everyday life, but also facilitates for visiting family and friends. The site surrounding the nursing home offers a lush and sunny yard, which could be utilized more efficiently with our building proposal. There will still be student accommodation in the neighbouring house which create a natural age-integration in the neighbourhood.

In our building the concept of corridor gets a new meaning since the it varies and further down becomes more of a pathway with small curves and bends, creating small, interesting places. The residents of the nursing homes are often limited by the space and facilities in the home. The building have therefor been given generous space for various activities and places which will contribute a higher quality of life for the residents. In order to activate the street and to bring in the buzz of the street into the building, three activity spaces are placed on the ground floor, all with a separate entrance from the street. The idea is that these activity spaces could be utilized by both the residents of the home and the city inhabitants. The business owners renting the spaces will share one common kitchen, placed in the east corner on the ground floor. This will enable a natural meeting between residents and tenants.

Through the great entrance the visitors can get a glimce of the lush courtyard. The shallow width create a constant contact with the yard. Three green speaces surrounds the building, where the most private one is enclosed by the house. The next green-zone is shared with the neighbouring student accommodation. Across the street we find the third and most public green space, the bishop garden.

The brick wall faรงade facing the street naturally interacts with the old wall west of the building. The window layout is both play full and varied. With its glassed wall the elevator shaft creates a clear cut. The courtyard is fronted with the warmer material wood, which provides a more cosy and natural feeling. On the third floor we find a terrace and a greenhouse, where visitors and residents can sit down in the gazing sun and overlook the city

Semester 3 - 2014 Project description: The idea of the course was to explore the connections between construction, conformation and space by working with wood. A traditional material which very well can be utilised in a modern fashion. By using a 1:10 scale model, we came closer to real life construction than in any previous projects. By virtue of the model we could both properly show the construction with all it´s nodes, as well as estimate the importance of the detail solutions. To be able to utilise the wood in a devised manner, we had to acquire knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of the material, but even more importantly: how to create an architectural experience with it. The location for the project was the old mill in Huseby, a small town in the woods of the shire Smüland. Huseby has a long traditions as an industrial town, with ironworks and forestry as the main source of income. In collaboration with the national property board, our task was to develop ingenious solutions for overnight stays in connection to the old mill of Huseby and the appurtenant mansion.

Narrow House Semester 3 - 2013 Project description: The idea of the course was to, in a limited area, create a townWhouse for about three persons. The narrow site was a challange that required special consideration in terms of light , volume and movement.

KOPPAR Semester 3- 2013 Project description:The idea of this course was to let us students instigate and lead the entire process. All the way from idea and first drawings to a complete prototype. The work was entirely executed by ourselves and went on for a period of five weeks. Process: I wanted to utilise and explore the tools of a plumber and the limitations and possibilities of the materials. With inspiration from copper pipes, I wanted the characteristics of the chair to be flowing but still harsh and industrial. The pipes are solded with the same technique traditionally used by plumbers throughout the times. The seat is made out of my dad´s old leather jacket. To me the fact that it really is a genuine vintage jacket I have used, adds an extra dimension to the chair and brings together the soft and living leather with the hard and industrial copper pipes.
