Park am Gleisdreieck

District development at ıPark am Gleisdreieck„, Berlin ıPark am Gleisdreieck„ is famous for its almost 20 abandoned rail tracks that are crossing it from one end to the other. The area is located in the middle of the park, right where a street called Yorckstraße divides it into two parts just like a canyon. The idea is to design a pattern of simple housing structures which connect the park and the city to activate the Yorckstraße, where almost nothing is going on, although it offers perfect locations for several uses. The buildings adopt the direction of the rail tracks and bridge the level difference being half dug into the ground. In this way they offer space, for manifold uses as housing, bars, ateliers, galleries or theaters, for the park as well as along the street.

A Design proposal for school extension and transformation of the existing structure. The new building contains a library, study rooms for natural sciences and a canteen in the ground floor. The structure creates a lot of open space which can be used flexible and offers a study area for the students which they can acquire easily every time. Heavy velvet curtains divide the space into more and less private areas for different needs. Creating an entrance at the main floor from both sides, the building opens itself up versus the existing school structure and as well towards the city. Due to this fact and the condition that the library can also be used by the township in the afternoon, the school gets better connected the to urban life. In the existing school structure we transformed the rooms into more open and flexible learning and teaching spaces, demolishing useless walls and inventing multi-use learning furniture.

Urban developement at Riva del Garda The project area includes a paper factory, an industrial zone in the city of Riva which will be shut down in the future and the area of an adjoining parc which together is 2qkm. Considering the fact that there will be developed a new terminal for tourists in the north of the paper factory, the proposal also provides a design for the terminal area with a car park and a bike rental. The paper factory zone will become a big residential area with a commercial axis which leads to the park and the historic centre. The park gets a new design, with small promenades connecting existing paths and nice resting areas.

Temporary living project in Antwerp As the area in Antwerps Schipperskwartier will change soon due to gentrification, prostitution stops and art and culture are getting supported, a building gap on Falconplein could serve as an interesting field for spatial and sociological experiments. The temporary design is subdivided into two aspects: a wooden topography is linking the inner yard and the street, and creates various zones with different qualities for urban gardening, concerts or markets. Above there is a netting structure stretched between the two neighboring buildings that offers accomodation for travelers in suspended cocoons. Where mass accomodation normally comes with an architecture dominated by spatial isolation, here itÂs the opposite: ItÂs the community that influences the whole structure. The abandoned warehouse on the right is integrated in the concept for facilities. The design was essentially developed by using Grasshopper and Kangaroo, which are quite new and pioneering programs. At the same time it was necessary to control the cad-progress by building several work models.

Project for San Rocco Summer School 2014, Transforming a school in Albania We take a small school in the Albanian countryside as an example for more than 400 obsolete schools spread all over the former comunist country. After communism broke down half of the population moved to Tirana or Durres, creating in the last 15 years an informal megacity, called Durana. The distribution of the population is quite problematic; Our goal is to enhance the value of Albanias countryside by creating a infrastructural grid of ıvillage„ centers. We use the location of the existing schools as a starting point for new ıepicenters„ that play with architectural topologies like the ıroof„ the ıslab„, the ıinner space„, to create multi-purpose comunity centers.

Design proposal for an abandoned subway station in Hanover The subway tunnel for line d was built in the late 60Âs but since its completion it never got used because of miscalculation. ItÂs bare but well conserved concrete structure, offers a perfect starting situation for our design proposal, which includes to open the tunnel as a memorial for misplannings all over the world. Therefore a steely pathway will be installed, hanging from the ceiling, leaving the concrete structure as it is and touching it nowhere. The entrance will be in the centre of the square above the station, represented by a kiosk which only appeares during the opening times, otherwise it can be shut down and used as a bench or urban stage. Walking the pathway the visitor gets in contact with multiple misplanned projects by seeing projections, models and especially by being surrounded by the spirit of a controversial development itself.

Venice diary While studing at IUAV I spent a lot of time strolling around the city, always facinated by the special sightings you just run into everywhere. Therefore I decided to start a diary with multiple sketches of the city and recorded, surrounded by the inspiring location of Venice, step-by-step the places and situations I liked.
