The most prominent feature of Port Alfred is the glorious KOWIE River, which has its beginnings in the hills around Grahamstown, meanders through the countryside, and eventually rushes out to sea between man-made breakwater, and pier...........

9 How to play sudoku The objective is to fill a 9x9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9. A cell is the smallest block in the game. A row, column and region consists of 9 cells and the whole game consists of 81 cells. A region has thicker lines Page 1/2 surrounding it. Kowie Railway (1883-1913)
The Cape Government passed early in 1881 - a bill which authorized the construction of the Grahamstown - Port Alfred line using the Cape gauge of 3 ft. 6 in.. The government agreed to subsidize the builders of the line with £500,000. The private enterprise which started off with a capital of £200,000, was named the Kowie Railway Co., Ltd. The first manager of the Kowie Railway, was Mr Henry Putt, a resident of Grahamstown. Later he became Director of the enterprise, which was eventually liquidated in 1912, and in February 1913 the line was taken over by the Government through the South African Railways. 30 percent of the 43-mile line had 1-in-50 gradients, and about 6 percent of the line had 1-in-40 gradients. The major constructional problem was the erection of the bridge at the Blaauwkrantz ravine. During 1882 the line was partially opened, but the completion of the Blaauwkrantz Bridge delayed full operations for public traffic to Grahamstown until 3rd December, 1884.

How to play sudoku The objective is to fill a 9x9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9. A cell is the smallest block in the game. A row, column and region consists of 9 cells and the whole game consists of 81 cells. A region has thicker lines surrounding it. This simply makes it easier to play the game.

Qnton it Queenstown was founded in 1853. It was intended to be a military outpost designed to protect the Bri sh subjects from a ack during the me of the Fron er wars. The town was laid out around a central hexagon, which was to be the lager to which the ci zens would flee in me of trouble. Although s ll a dis nguishing feature of the town today, the hexagon was never used for its intended purpose. Queenstown became a service town for farmers in the district. It was known for the quality of its wagon building and for the general quality of its (oen) imported merchandise. Educa onal Ins tu ons also flourished. In the late 19th century, Queenstown prospered, and the huge local sand stone public buildings were built, most s ll standing today. The magnificent Town Hall facade is an example, as are the Methodist Church, the Anglican Church and the Dutch Reformed Church. Aer the world wide depression in the 1920's, Queenstown once again entered a period of prosperity while s ll ac ng as a supply and educa onal center for surrounding farmers and smaller towns. Aer 1948, and the beginning of the Apartheid era, the district changed character as white owned farms were bought out and the land incorporated in the Transkei and Ciskei and se led with people. Queenstown has since then been a service centre for these people. (the tradi onal "Loca on") has been incorporated into Queenstown since 1984. Mlungisi was perhaps best known as a training ground for poli cal ac vists, and also for the dedica on of its school teachers. Many of the leaders of the present government have had links with the town through its poli cal connec ons over the years. The poli cal clout of Mlungisi was demonstrated by the residents par cipa on in a consumer boyco in 1985. The mo va ng factor was the atrocious condi ons pertaining in the township. Ezibeleni was a town established near Queenstown in the 1960's as part of a master plan to move all Black people to the homelands. It was incorporated into Queenstown aer 1984.
We are ere to reate it not repeat it...
