BEYOND THE FIELD The Rural Community Design Location: Fuxin, Lioaning Date: May 2016 - June 2016 Acdemic Individual Work Tutor: Li Bo With the process of urbanization is promoting, the urban problems are obvious, the traditional country also loses the vitality and faces the depressed risk. In order to relieve the urban and country problems, I make the thinking of the new type of urbanization, it also can be said the development of village. According to the local environment and the requirements of policy, I design a set of country system which can meet the rural production and business, and the living services, and it is located in the Fuxin Town, Liaoning Province. The country design carries out the integration of the several original scattered villages, so an entire village is formed; in the village, in order to activate the village and town vitality, we implant the plough lands, factories and service facilities into the villages and towns orderly, which can combine the living, business and farming organically; so that a set of entire settlement of production and living is formed in the villages.

02

BACKGROUND ANALYSIS

Urbanization has caused such as urban congestion, traffic congestion, high prices, so that the quality of life in the city worse

BACKGROUND OF SITE

EXISITING HOMESTEAD TYPE

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ACTIVITY AND SITE

Under the daily business mode, the homestead and land utilization of two typical families in the villages and towns, comparatively speaking, the middle-aged and old families tend to the traditional farming, the core families generally include three modes of the farming and planting business, the production and business of workshops, and the internet sales business. The original homestead is difficult to meet the site requirements of these three business modes.

04

SITE ANALYSIS

N

The Fuxin town consists of 5 counties, cover around 28300 hectares. The town is closed to Inner Mongolia and Shenyang capital of Liaoning Province, 7km to airport, 10km to train station.

In 2015, the state introduced the policy of Modern agricultural demonstration zone Fuxin town is located on the west zone, where the main produce are corn and peanut.

05

01

controversy

The traditional rural layout is circled with the county, where the field can’t be watched well, the factory is not easy to reach either. This layout method can’t meet the needs of new operating mode, which needs personal processing, deep processing, and mass delivery amount.

02

spread

To satisfy the each family have relatively independent field, the residential part is spread and inserted into the field.

03

insert

To satisfy the new operating mode which needs the factories are involved into the daily production. We insert the factory into the residential area.

04

append

The total area of the new county is several fold of the original county. Inserting the service part along with the factory mode into the several residential parts can provide a better living environment. Mixing up with service part, factory part means a wider range of services.

05 mix up The new layout mixes up the residential, factory field and service parts.

STRATEGY The original villages and towns are composed by four different villages, and they are divided by their plough lands. The Xincheng Town integrates the four surrounding villages and plough lands to form a set of complete village system. It adds the corresponding community facilities into the entire village, and places the workshop into each block of region, which can activate the village and town vitality on the different level. The village design takes the form of the homestead common farming and the both ends connection, and connects the plough lands and each inhabitant mutually by the overpass, so that the villages have the tighter internal link.

INTRODUCTION The project is divided into 14 functional blocks according to the different functional requirements, and the blocks are listed and connected by their mutual relationships. The design tries to find out the different list and connection of the blocks produce the possibility on the space and functions. The design makes the garbled stack for the boxes with the different functions, and finally a set of entire functional system is formed, which can meet the requirements of the urban surrounding users, and at the same time it creates the library building with the various internal environment.

According to the use demand of local district 14 programs are arranged before the design.

Separation

Organization & Setback

The original base is divided by an auxiliary road, which connects the commercial district and resident district, the base is defined as the main block and auxiliary block. In order to increase the openness of main block, the auxiliary block is also cut into two blocks.

Circulation & Joint It pieces and connects all main functional space, the transport space and transitional space are generated in the joint of the different blocks, this kind of transitional space is used to form a closed streamline.

Atrium All the functional blocks towards to the atrium, which not only let the atrium to meet the better lighting requirement, but also let the different working areas can have the better communication.

It takes the arrangement for the different functional blocks of the public service part of library on the layer. The mutual independent blocks are formed the top layer of building, so that it emphasizes the entrance, at the same time it forms the independent atrium space.

SHAPE AS A SCULPTURE Shenzhen Marine World Cuture and Art Center Location: Shekou District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Date: April 2017 - June 2017 Acdemic Individual Work Tutor: Lv You The Shenzhen Marine World Culture Center is the final thesis of my undergraduate which used as a real bid project in Shenzhen. It is modified and put forward again as a academic project. The design is marked as distinct work in 2017. As an iconic landmark it should not only thinking about the independent function but also have to design how to merge into the local context. The buidling shaped as a "sculpture" but it is so distinct but moderate. using a gentle way to engage with the city and community. Meanwhile the building should never lose its own characteristic when the public have connection with the building.

29

SITE ANALYSIS

The site is located in the Shenzhen Guangdong Provience, which is a pioneer in the reform of openning place in China. Shekou District has experience a rapid development during the last 40 years. In the guide of district planning, the local government wants to build a building to satisfy the entertainment needs and art exhibition needs. It should also be the icon of Shekou development with the theme of Marine. In the design of Art Center I wants to extract the concept of sea and creatures in sea. Becauese the site is located next to the bay area. The concept model follows the waves of beach and shape of shells, which makes the architceture seems like two shells and a soft wave in this area. This building mainly divided into two parts. One is exhibition and art gallery. Another is auditorium and public events building. The two parts connected with 2nd floor enterance hall to make two parts work separately.

31

The building wants to organize the different flows from the district such as the public flows, audience flows, audience flows, and make everyone can access to the building easily.

PAVILION ON THE PORT

Installation Design on Western Public Port Location: Western District Hong Kong Date: February 2019 - April 2019 Acdemic Group Work Tutor: Haoru Chen 1:1 Scale Experinment Structure

43

SITE ANALYSIS & MATERIAL The site is located in the Western Port of Hong Kong. This project is the first phase outcome of this studio, aiming to use local material and traditional technique to build a building. In the further phase we are going to build a building in a Chinese village.

SITE

At this stage we mainly use Pallets which collected in the harbour to build a shelter on port. On the port a lot of useless pallets can be found, so how can we make use them and recycle them to make contribution to the city is the key point we want to discuss. Disassembling the pallet and using the standardized panels is the main method. The Main Structural Frame consists of five units, each consisting of two misaligned octagons. Short bolts are used to anchor the boards. The long bolts are used to anchor the units. Because the long bolts can be used for relatively accurate auxiliary positioning, this greatly reduces the construction difficulty. A diagonal bracing is added to both sides of the bottom of the pavilion to make the overall structure more stable.

METHOD OF ASSEMBLING

44

The materials are steel nails and wooden panels with stantralized size. The two ring (octagon) can constraint each other to make it form a stable structure. Apart from the main structure, The constructure of chairs can be seen as a traditional Chinese Chair using “Sunmou tectonic with no nail in this structure.

The structure is easy to assemble and the whole structure construction only continued for about 5 days. The images from top left to right shows disassembling pallets, removing nails, modifying the panels, stacking the panels and setting up panels and real testing.

This Project is a concept urban design in the first semester of Master programme, guided by Dr. JIA Beisi in HKU. The initial concept comes from a painting (Chalk Cliffs on RĂźgen by Caspar David Friedrich). We decide to abstract some of the charateristic and style to guide the urban design using cubism method to Find relationship between aesthetics and programmes. With this method we hope it can help futher urban design in China.
