Man-made global warming induced catastrophic sea-level rise discussion

The city of Miami is not just a single conglomeration of buildings, e.g. Manhattan Island. Miami has many inlets, waterways and man-made concrete-walled canals bordered by boats accessed by stairs down from the edge of the canal where buildings are situated along the top. If one has just boarded a boat, you are just an arm’s length from the concrete wall where the water level, (i.e. sea level) can be seen close at hand. Any long-time resident who has lived there for, say 10 years or more, would be very much aware of any rapid rise of the waterline, especially if it was as significant amount or rapidly increasing as we've been led to believe. A few recently prominent in the news have flatly stated that we'll all be dead in ten years, even that we go so far as to eliminate cattle! Is there any citizen in any of the "Rocky Mountain" States who believes that? Of course, their remarks are leveled at those living along the Coasts, i.e. aimed at the largest segment of the US voting population. Certainly, our Navy or The Royal Navy would have hundreds of years of data on sealevel rising or falling and yet there is a wall of silence. Some Admiral in charge could simply give a public statement of dry facts? Maybe he or she is afraid they'll be busted down to Seaman recruit? Instead, those who are non-political, most credible, say nothing or, have no voice, no means to access public opinion. The media sits atop the pinnacle of the First Amendment whereby they can say anything about anyone, anywhere, with complete immunity while not submitting to any accountability. Ironically, they often print half-truths, slander and libelous accusations whereby a person is judged guilty by mere association! "Inquiring minds want to know." At times the sensationalist "waiting in line at the checkout stand media" seem sometimes more in touch with facts than the "big city" Press. Straddling high upon our First Amendment many do not practice or permit the public those same rights, while they themselves, simultaneously are proudly waving high the banner of freedom of the Press.
The main thing that bothers me most is that people seem to believe even the most outrageous and irrational propaganda. I would think the polls would indicate that at least 70 or 80 percent of Americans would reject all this disinformation, but it seems that number is perilously close to 50%. Have Americans become that gullible, blinded, swayed by impassioned rhetoric? Are a near majority of people of the richest Nation on Earth so angry and discontent that they have left reason and succumbed to stupidity.
The whole global warming thing is the prime example of the parable of "The Naked Emperor." Everyone is cowed by the fear of ridicule, for Scientists, the reality of losing 1

their jobs or being professionally demeaned, as most of the research done in America is directly or indirectly Government-funded; government bureaucracies where it is perceived the truth is deleterious while the greatest gain is to ride the current wave of persuasive propaganda.
It is all too rare you will ever hear from the media anything that contests their agenda. What humanity needs most is the truth. It can be found if one looks for it. For many Americans that seems to be unimportant or too much trouble. Most likely, they are content just to believe what they hear. There are powerful forces who fear the truth above all else; rather they would have us believe that "the sky is falling" in order to convince us radical change will solve our greatest problems. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.
Actually, there are many great and wonderful things also happening. You may even catch a glimpse on the local news. The best I can offer is to look for the good and work to increase it. As you have said on more than one occasion, underlying the world's Civilizations is the overriding need for Energy. A need that unlike Global Warming is rapidly accelerating. The Pyramids are still standing because the builders wisely built on a solid foundation. I totally agree with the Nuclear option. It's a total no-brainer; so it's a mystery why we are still mired in Nuclear near-stagnation? Maybe the Oil Companies should lead on Nuclear Research? My opinion is that the Chinese have the most to gain and the least restrictions to overcome their dependence on Coal. If they succeed, others will follow their lead acting as if they have never been opposed but have always been on board the Nuclear Bandwagon. A big attaboys for those not afraid of the truth. I heard from a most credible source that our government has deliberately approved a Climatic Model that accelerates, that is, grossly exaggerates the actual rate of Global warming, (i.e. sea rise-we'll all be dead in ten years-right?). He said that all other prominent Nations have adopted the same model. Also, the only ones to rely on a model based on real data are the Russians. 2

During the height of the last ice age, global sea level was about 400 feet lower than today. After the last ice age ended approximately 20,000 years ago, sea level rose rapidly, but for the last few thousand years has been rising very slowly and has been almost stable for the last 4-5 thousand years. Importantly, this recent era of stability encompasses the history of human civilization, meaning significant global sea-level rise is truly unprecedented in human history. Is flooding occurring along the coastlines of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean? Yes. It is due to humans placing buildings and streets too close to the water and in some cases land subsidence. It is not due to use of fossil fuel and additional carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Has Sea Level Changed Before? Yes. Sea levels around the globe have fallen and risen dramatically over millions of years, driven primarily by glacial advance and retreat. Sea-level changes in the distant past were often substantial and occurred faster than our current change. However, during these periods either humans did not yet exist or our settlements were simple enough that we easily moved them as the shoreline migrated landward or seaward.
