6 Essential tips for students that every student should know

Hello there, how are you? Good? Alright then. As you’re reading this, I’m going to assume you’re a student, so yeah, hello student, this is your sensei, and today I’m going to give you some essential tips that you should know as a young padawan. By the way, watch out for movie references.

6 Essential tips for students 

Don’t think of yourself as a student

Don’t just memories

Don’t think your school will teach you everything

Learn about money

Learn to dress well

Relax

Here goes, essential tip number:

1. Don’t think of yourself as a student What! Sensei are you mad? No, I’m not mad young padawan, hear me out. If you think of yourself as a student then you will feel like a student. And you and I both know you hate being a student. You always think about what it must feel like to be a teacher and how you would be different as a teacher. So here’s my advice, think of yourself as a learner and a teacher. What this’ll do is it will change your perspective, instead of thinking like a student who just wants to learn things to pass the exam, you will think like a person who wants to learn something so that the thing you learn will come in use in the future. And thinking of yourself as a teacher will allow you to understand the topic or the lesson more easily, you should think to yourself like this, what would my students ask in this topic, what questions can they ask and what will they find confusing and then try to find the answers to those questions, this way you will easily understand the lesson and get a much better idea.

2. Don’t just memories If you’re in school then remember you’re there to learn not to memories, try to understand what the subject is all about. What the lesson is trying to say, understand the key topics. Cause at the end of the day you’re going to forget what your memories. But you’ll never forget what you understand. I know it’s easy to just memories and pass the exam, but trust sensei on this as I have done it and have realized just how stupid I was to have done something so stupid. You see if you understand something then you don’t have the need to memories it. Your brain automatically starts to do your work for you. Here’s my tip: try to question whatever it is you’re learning, ask questions, how does this relate to the real world? What’s the real-world application and how does it work? Very important: never ask yourself these question 

How does calculus help me in the real world?

Why do I have to know Pythagoras' theorem?

What is differentiation and integration and why are they so hard?

How can it be mathematics if it has alphabets in it?

These are all questions that are as old as the universe itself, and they have no answer, you just have to agree that you need to know them and accept that they are hard and move on.

3. Don’t think your school will teach you everything Ah school, let me tell you something, it will not prepare you for life. Yes, it will teach you a bunch of things and give you a nice piece of paper with your name on it in the end but not much more. Real life is a lot different, in school, you can just do over and correct your mistakes, but life is not like that. You have to be careful. In real life, you have to analyze information, plan ahead and make informed decisions. Here’s my tip: start to learn from other sources, read books, watch informational YouTube videos, take an online course. It could be anything, it’s the 21st century after all, there’s no shortage of information. As sensei, I highly recommend you watch informational YouTube videos, they provide you with information and will broaden your knowledge. But keep in mind, YouTube videos seldom go into details about any topic, and they are great for gaining the basic understanding of something. For gaining deep knowledge and understanding of any subject, I recommend you take online courses. Online courses are everywhere, and they are amazing for gaining deep information about any particular topic. And the best thing is they give you certificates which will diversify your CV so you’ll get an advantage when applying for jobs. And online courses are cheap so there’s that. Here are the courses that I have completed in the last two months

4. Learn about money This is probably the most important advice I can give you as your sensei. Learn more about money. Your school will not teach you about money, that’s a guarantee. Learn what an asset is, what your liabilities are, what your expenses are. How you can minimize expenses and maximize your income. Learn about cashflow. These are things you must know. Otherwise, you’ll end up broke like so many people. Smart people know how to handle their money. Be smart. Learn money management now and thank me later. Here’s a money management course that I like.

5.Learn to dress well You have seen the movie Kingsman right? If you haven’t then I highly recommend that you do. There’s a line in that movie, “manners market man” and dressing well is a form of good manners. The first thing that others notice about you is your clothing. Sure your Converse and your cool Vans shoes look cool, but good luck getting a job if you wear them to your job interview. You see, when you graduate and go out in the real world, there’s a certain that you must live up to. People associate a good dresser with success. And that’s what you want.

No, I’m not saying that you should pretend to be successful, only losers do that. I’m saying start preparing for success. Dress up every now and then. Learn how to tie a tie, wear formal oxford shoes, a button-up shirt, and most importantly, learn to wear a suit. Create a habit of dressing well and many opportunities will automatically open themselves to you. My tip: everywhere you go, try to dress up a little bit more than what everyone else is wearing, don’t go overboard though. Nobody wants to see you wearing a bright red suit.

6.Relax As a padawan, you are under a lot of pressure. I know, I remember when I was doing my A’ levels, god I don’t think I’ve ever been more stressed out. But looking back on it, I feel silly, all that worrying, all that tension, was for what? I now think I would have done a lot better in my studies if I had just relaxed a bit. Don’t think about what your results are going to be, how many A’s you get and how your result will decide your life. There are so many people out there who do so well in school and still end up unhappy and so many people who do average in school are so well off now. At the end of the day, if you are just stressing out over your studies and not enjoying it, then you’ll never be a good learner. My tip: every time you feel stressed, just relax and take a step back. Ask yourself the question, will the thing that you’re so worried about now have any impact 5 years later? If the answer is yes, then think about it, but if the answer is no, then why would you destroy your mental peace over something that you’re not even going to remember just five years later?

Conclusion You see as a student you have to learn a lot of things. There are no ends to the things that you should know. That’s why you’re a student so that you can learn, improve and be better. But you have to nail your basics. Some essential things that you should have a solid knowledge of, such as money, dressing well and having knowledge. Nail these basics and you’ll be unstoppable my young padawan. So, my young padawan, we have reached the end of today’s lesson. Hope you enjoyed these 6 essential tips. Chao for now.
