The Changing World of Remote Working, Teaching, and Learning
The world’s not what it used to be. Gone are the times where noblemen used to sit around and do nothing. We’re seeing an almost tectonic shift in people’s thinking. Now we respect people who have skills. Skills are what determines your value in today’s changing world. So much has changed and so much will change. From living in caves to living in skyscrapers, we humans have come so far. We’ve achieved so much. For better or for worse, we live in modern society now. Through our skills and knowledge, we’ve made great innovations. We’ve achieved what was previously thought unachievable. Think about it, if you go back in time and tell a person living in the 1800s about smartphones, computers, other technologies that can communicate via waves, nuclear bombs that can wipe out entire countries, vehicles that can go at ungodly speeds, would that person believe you? Probably not. But these things appear common to us now. Nothing special…. Before we begin, want to hear something ironic? The most negative word of 2020 is- positive. Just food for thought.
Let’s begin The world is going through a crisis right now, namely, COVID-19. And history has taught us that with crisis comes change.
After the 2 world wars, the entire world changed. Great technological leaps were made. The modern society that we live in today is built on the innovations that were made during those crises. And the significant change that has come due to this COVID-19 crisis is in the form of remote working. With this COVID-19 crisis, the world has unanimously agreed on one thing, and that thing is, remote working is the future.
Welcome to the changing world of remote working Although we all knew this was the future, we just didn’t think it’d come this fast. After the COVID-19 hit, almost all countries were put on lockdown, all non-essential offices, schools, colleges and universities were shut down. And everyone thought this would bring society to a halt. BUT…. Almost everyone all over the world said NO, this is the modern society we live in, just because we can’t go outside doesn’t mean everything will stop. Everyone started working from home remotely. And they still are working from home. I myself am writing this article from the comfort of my home. Schools and colleges are conducting classes online. We, as a society, have indeed come far. Most of our works are done online now anyway, so this isn’t really a big problem. I mean, what is it that you need to work remotely, what are the remote working tools, the remote working essentials if you will. I think for most people it’s this, and be warned the list might surprise you.
Remote working essentials1. A computer 2. An internet connection That’s it!! WHAT! Am I mad? What am I saying? All you need is a computer and an internet connection? Blasphemy!! Before you start typing angrily in the comment box, just wait a minute and listen. Despite what you may have read on the internet, the article that said “10 essential things that you need to work from home”, “20 must-haves to work remotely” all of them were saying the same thing just in a different way, all of them intended to catch your eyes with the biggest number possible. Before falling for such marketing themed articles that are designed to make you think you need something that you actually don’t. Think for yourself, and you’ll realize what I’m talking about. Yes, I understand that your job may require you to have specialized equipment and other tools. But for the majority of people out there who are doing regular 9 to 5 jobs, a good enough computer and an internet connection is all you need.
Remote working Skills you must have. Unlike the £300 comfy chair that your article said you’d need, the thing that you will genuinely need is skills. And this is the perfect time to tell you about this. Remote working is not like your typical blue-collar jobs. The thing about remote working is this, it mostly comes down to your skills. The more skilled you are, the easier it is for you to work remotely. Technical skills that you should have
Some technical skills have become a must nowadays, for example 1. Knowing how to use MS Office, 2. Knowing how to use Google’s Office suite, 3. A little bit of coding, 4. A bit of graphic design, 5. Basic skills in photoshop, 6. Basic web design 7. Knowing how to edit photos and videos 8. Basic photography and videography All these are basic skills that you should have as a human being living in the 21st century. It has become challenging to get by without these skills. And you will need these skills for any type of job that you apply for. Now don’t worry if you don’t have these skills yet. These are really not that hard to learn. All these things are straightforward, and the internet is filled with great online courses that’ll teach you these skills within days. They also provide certificates after completing such courses, so you can add them to your CV, and that’ll significantly improve your career opportunities. Here are a few excellent courses that I found, these will benefit you greatly and will teach you the essential skills you need.

Essential Soft Skills Apart from these technical skills, you should also have some soft skills. What I mean by that is you should be able to interact with people efficiently. You and I live in a world where there is no shortage of people, but most of them don’t have the necessary human skills that are needed. For example, 1. knowing how to properly communicate and talk to people, 2. having a positive attitude and having leadership traits, 3. knowing how to dress appropriately. These things go a long way to help you succeed. You might think that these soft skills have nothing to do with working remotely, but you’d be wrong. Necessary skills like these will forever pay off and will benefit you in every step of the way.

Why I think a change in education is important Remote Learning & Teaching If we can work remotely, we can also learn remotely. And everyone has realized that. The way schools and colleges have quickly adopted online classes has really made me think moving forward, online education will have a massive role in the future. We already have online courses that are great and provide excellent education and professional level degrees. So it makes sense that online classes also become mainstream in the future. Online teaching will also provide excellent employment opportunities for teachers and individuals who have skills. The world is changing, it’s becoming increasingly mobile, we work on the go, we value skill over everything else. We are indeed evolving, and it’s terrific. As the world continues to put emphasis on remote working, you should do what you can to keep up and gain the skills needed to keep up with this changing world.
