I see architecture as the gateway to changing the world. It can shift the economy, change the way people live, and greatly change the environment. As a design thinker, I believe all three of these aspects paired with contextual study need to be addressed in order to build a successful design. Being part of the new generation of architects, I always strive to carry the legacy of the hand and combine it with the technology of today. Designing by hand and refining with technology is my design process.

Reconnecting the formal to the informal Fall 2016| Studio III | University of Maryland Prof. Hill | Duration: 5 weeks Prompt: Design a mid rise mixed use residential building in a Historic district of Baltimore M.D. The design should fit within its context and follow the Mt. Vernon historic design guidelines. Located north of the Washington Monument in Mt. Vernon, the intersection of Eager st. and N. Charles st. serves as the point where varying cultures meet. On the west of N Charles st. is the street called Morton, where adaptive re used buildings and the hipster vibe are prominent. The building acts as a junction between the formal street of N. Charles st. and the informal street of Morton St. The idea of the building is to activate the ground level and increase foot traffic on both streets. This ensures a good balance in the social and economic aspect of the design. The building also features sustainable design practices such as a green roof system that also acts as an amenity for the apartment dwellers. The unit mix is designed to serve a wide range of demographics: from one student to a family. The context was used as the tool for designing the shape and the facade of the building. The building introduces modern aesthetics while respecting the historic language of adjacent buildings.

The sustainable lifestyle Spring 2016| Studio II | University of Maryland Prof. Abrams | Duration: 5 weeks Prompt: Design a specialty library that will serve the community of Frederick . The building site is on a long lot along W Patrick St with an existing building adjacent to it. The design of this library focuses on implementing sustainable practices in the town of Frederick, MD. The building integrates various sustainable features that will serve as the learning tool for the patrons. The idea is to make the patrons explore the building, learn from it, and apply it back to their community. It is the process of reinforcing the idea of sustainability to make it a common practice for the community.

Passive Solar design Fall 2013| Studio I | Montgomery College Prof. Talaat| Duration: 3 weeks Prompt: Design a 600 sq. ft. house using Structural Insulated Panels and incorporate sustainable features in the design. Site is located adjacent to Potomac River, which is located to the east. The design concept revolves around the idea of adapting net zero design. The design features solar panels that are strategically placed on a shed roof to maximize solar energy gain. In addition to the solar panels, trombe wall was added to create passive cooling and heating. The entire house is composed of structural insulated panels for better structural freedom and insulation. Light shelves are placed above the windows to reduce direct sunlight but still provide daylighting.

resonating design Spring 2016| Studio II | University of Maryland Prof. Abrams| Duration: 5 weeks Prompt: Design a soundroom from an existing shell along H street corridor in Washington D.C. Facade and interior design must have design unity. The objective was to design 3 soundproof studios and office spaces. This design is based on structures that resonate from a hierarchical core to create spaces. The facade is based on the language of the interior and inspired by the iconic piece of Atlas Performing Arts Center and Casa Cattaneo. The purpose of this soundroom is to interact with the performing arts center by being studio and the catalyst for musicians that will resonate towards their performance in the Atlas.

The Monumental room

Fall 2016| Studio III | University of Maryland Prof. Hill | Duration: 5 weeks Prompt: Design a monumental room first, then design a facade, and design a promenade that connects both the facade and the grand room with the given site. Required medium: Pen/pencil on Mylar/vellum. The design focuses on the idea of previews and stages. Each sequence of spaces reveals series of elements that pushes the user to move to the next space. Every space creates a different experience and introduces a new design element. Each element seen in the promenade is ultimately meant to build up the tone for the grand finale. Thus, when the Grand room is reached, the user will discover all of the elements combined in one room.
