EXPERTS AT WORK
YOU CAN’T STAY AT THE TOP IF YOU’RE NOT MOVING FORWARD. WHEN WE OUTPERFORM, YOU OUTPERFORM.
At BHS, we go further than anyone else to ensure our customers receive the best products and services possible. That’s why, in early 2014, we opened a 35,000 square-foot facility that’s able to produce the best rolls quicker than ever. From our Campbell grinder and tungsten spray booths to our cart-rebuilding services and NICE® Rolls Program—this brochure showcases the capabilities of our Knoxville-based plant as well as the industry-leading equipment it contains. Ready to see how BHS can provide you with maximum sustained OEM-rated speeds, more uptime between roll changes, and the fastest delivery times possible? We thought so.

OUR KNOXVILLE FACILITY SPECIALIZES IN MANUFACTURING, REBUILDING, AND REGRINDING CORRUGATING, PRESSURE, GLUE, AND METERING ROLLS—FOR BHS MACHINES AND NON-BHS MACHINES. THE PLANT UTILIZES THE HIGHEST-QUALITY MATERIALS AND INCORPORATES CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY INTO EVERY ROLL.
THE ONE-AND-ONLY CAMPBELL GRINDER
EXPERIENCE INDUSTRY-LEADING PERFORMANCE.
UNPARALLELED ROLL PRODUCTION
IT JUST DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS. OUR STEEL IS TOUGHER THAN STEEL.
SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS HIGH. AND YOUR PERFORMANCE LEVELS HIGHER.
When manufacturing rolls, we use a special steel alloy with a hardness penetration depth approximately 10% greater than standard materials. This ensures maximum product life, optimum ductility, and high resistance to heat and wear. The quality of BHS steel guarantees you’ll never have to re-harden the roll.
THE BHS HEATING SYSTEM: SETTING A NEW STANDARD. While we offer corrugating rolls with other steam systems as required, our signature Heating System is a must-have if you wish to produce high-quality board at high speeds. The peripherally drilled design puts heat and steam closer to the outside of the roll, where it needs to be. This allows for quicker temperature adjustments, greater diameter consistency, and improved adhesion.

• Unsurpassed lead times. The grinder’s multiple dressers and automatic wheel changer guarantee uninterrupted cycles, contributing to quicker turnarounds. • Unmatched quality and precision. The programmable wheel dresser and the automated roll inspection cycle help ensure greater accuracy—with all flute forms. • Unrivaled tolerances. The grinder has the ability to grind a 4,000-pound steel roll into gears with flute tolerances half the width of a human hair.

UNPRECEDENTED CAPABILITIES
A PROCESS WE’RE PROUD TO OWN.
BHS’ EXCLUSIVE COATING
ADD A LAYER OF OUTPERFORMANCE.
WE’VE GOT COATING COVERED. BHS is the only roll supplier in North America with inhouse tungsten-coating capabilities. Having control over the tungsten-coating procedure reduces lead times and ensures quality expectations are met.
TO SURPASS THE REQUIREMENTS OF CORRUGATED BOARD PRODUCTION, WE USE A SPECIALLY DEVELOPED TUNGSTEN CARBIDE COATING. THIS BHS EXCLUSIVE PRODUCES HARDER, DENSER ROLLS WITH AN EXCEPTIONAL SURFACE FINISH. THOUGH WE HAVE CHROME-COATING CAPABILITIES, OVER 80 PERCENT OF BHS AND CRC ROLLS ARE MANUFACTURED WITH THIS SIGNATURE TUNGSTEN LAYER.
THE FINISHING TOUCH—OUR CUSTOM TUNGSTEN POLISHER. Specially designed for BHS, our tungsten polisher contains a traveling carriage, double head, and a high-performance motor for an improved lapping process. Ultimately, it’ll ensure smoother startups and boost medium flow through the roll.
HOW DO OUR TUNGSTEN-COATED ROLLS STACK UP? When put to the test, rolls with BHS’ signature tungsten coating are better than rolls with any other kind of coating—bar none. Just take a look at the chart below, which shows measured levels of hardness based on the Vickers test.
WHY IS USING THE BEST POLISHER IMPORTANT? Beyond removing roughness after a roll has been coated, a good polisher: • Promotes high-speed roll startups

• Makes the polishing process more flexible—reducing lead times

• Improves medium release from nip, which guarantees a long roll life

SERVICE AND ASSURANCE
MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE. AND PEACE OF MIND. Our industry-leading services make it easy to stay ahead. Whether you’re a small outfit or a big business, we have a program that’ll fit your needs.
IT’S EXACTLY WHAT IT IS: NICE. With our NICE® (Not Including Capital Expenditure) Rolls program, you’ll be charged quarterly on the basis of linear meters produced. This enables costs to be expensed rather than capitalized. And because the program delivers the highest quality rolls available—and will provide you with replacements when needed*—you’ll experience more uptime as well as excellent production quality levels. NICE Rolls customers don’t have to worry about installing, managing, and maintaining their rolls, either—we do. Twice a year our technicians will carry out inspections to make sure the rolls we provided are wearing well.
DEPOT ROLL MANAGEMENT—ANOTHER STANDOUT SERVICE. As an ideal solution for larger customers, Depot Roll Management ensures you’ll never go without spare rolls. For every four machines that are the same, we’ll store one set of rolls in our facility and ship them to you when you need them. This places the burdens of managing inventory and finances off of you and onto us.
9 * Roll replacements will not be provided in all cases. BHS will determine whether or not a replacement roll will be distributed.
LET’S TAKE UPTIME TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL.
