The State of m-Learning in 2016
M-learning isn’t only about students, schools and colleges but it also covers how the workforces of businesses can learn relevant content that help them deliver productivity out of assigned tasks. Reason why businesses around the world are using smartphones and tablets as a learning tool is the widespread of adoptions of these devices. According to an independent market research firm – eMarketer, the number of smartphone users worldwide will surpass 2 billion in 2016. So smartphones and tablets are here to fuel the extensive interest among both businesses and their employees who want to use mobile devices as a tool for various sorts of trainings. As we know, mobile devices are used by millions of employees over the world. Whether employer-provided or personally purchased, mobile devices are offering unmatched opportunities to employees for learning functions and connecting with each other.
The current state of mobile based learning or mlearning Mobile learning has still to spread widely Yes, mlearning has not yet been adopted at large level by all the organizations in need. On an average, only 1 out of three organizations has mlearning related program. As of a latest report of ATD Research, only Twenty-one percent of respondents surveyed said that although they were using mlearning apps but not in a structured manner. Only 13 percent of respondents said that they had formal programs for mlearning with specified objective, in a structured manner. A 37 percent of respondents said that they have future-plans to implement mobile learning solutions.
Organizations are providing devices to their employees Organizations are taking mlearning very serious and thus are providing devices to their employees. Half of the respondents surveyed said that they provide employees with tablets.
Bring Your Own Device and mlearning BYOD model is now being accepted and employees are allowed to bring on device for their routine office work. Companies supporting BYOD are likely to report high levels of effectiveness in organizational learning.
Organizational areas to implement mlearning solutions The report also suggests that most of the mlearning solutions for employees have been created around sales and operations functions. Executive-level management, marketing, and human resources were among other business areas where m-learning solutions have been implemented.
Lack of funding is the biggest constraint for mobile learning programs. This is seriously an issue. Many organizations want to implement digital learning material but because of not having sufficient funds, they are either not using their own solutions or still have not adopted mobility for it.
