Dahi Bhalla

This recipe was given to me by family in the Czech Republic. I most enjoy this soup for dinner on cold nights, for Shabbat meals, and as a comfort food anytime.

Old Style Chicken Soup

3 to 4 pieces of chicken, with bones 1 large onion, chopped 2 carrots, chopped 1 turnip, chopped 1 parsnip, chopped 2 stalks celery, chopped 2 dill sprigs 3 to 4 garlic cloves 1 t paprika Salt and pepper, to taste

PREPARATION

Combine all ingredients in a large soup pot. Fill with water unit everything begins to float. Bring to boil. Reduce to simmer. Simmer until the chicken is fully cooked and vegetables are soft. The longer you simmer, the better the flavor. To remove fat, allow the fully cooked soup to cool, skim the fat off the top. Remove the chicken from the pot, shred it and discard the bones.
