Wearable technology is rapidly changing the sports industry in subtle ways. There are countless ways that this technology has made tracking more accurate than ever, which is likely to improve even more with time. Scientists have found a way to make GPS trackers so small (and relatively inexpensive) that they can comfortably fit on an athlete’s outfit. This technology removes the need for guessing or other methods of identifying the winner during a split race. Additionally, it allows for instant tracking across a large number of athletes. A large marathon, for example. Head-mounted displays (HMDs) are another modern advantage, allowing race car drivers to stay in direct contact with their pit crews. Public engagement can be further encouraged through the use of social media. Now athletes and sports teams can create their own social media profiles, encouraging fans to reach out to their favorites. This very same technology allows fans to communicate across great distances, sharing their love of the sport globally. This has already resulted in a rise of fantasy sports teams and clubs, which will continue to grow over the next few years. Empowerment The rise of social media has had another huge benefit: it is giving a voice to athletes. Now they can easily reach their fandom without going through an agent or team. In other words, they have more agency. This level of communication allows for more transparency, helping athletes speak up when their agents or the like are https://johndavidhartigan.org/top-tech-trends-changing-the-sports-industry/

handling things in a way that isn’t in the athlete’s best interest (for example, trading them away from a team they love).
