THINKING OF TAKING A LEAVE OF ABSENCE…

THINK TWICE! There are many valid reasons for requesting a leave of absence, but there are also many unforeseen consequences of taking one: •

Financial strain o

Taking a break may provide temporary relief, but these jobs pale in comparison to what you could have gotten if you had stayed in school.

• Academic Pressure o

Making time for studying with your busy schedule may be difficult. Think about ways that you could possibly restructure your time and your busy schedule so that you won’t need to take any time off. See the Director of Student Services for suggestions so that you can create the best study plan that fits you.

• Postponing your graduation o

It’s a 9 month program for a reason. It’s important to get the training you need in the time allotted so you can enter the workforce and make a decent living as soon as possible.

• Family related issues o

At any moment issues can arise concerning your loved ones. Remember, they are your loved ones for a reason… they want to see you succeed. Talk it over with them and see if there is a better way to help them without your goals being put aside.

• Life changes / obstacles o

Certain life changes may seem like obstacles at first, but these bumps in the road can sometimes help to push you and make your goals even clearer.

• Health problems o

Not all health problems might require time off. Speak to your instructor; there may be an opportunity for you to coordinate some extra assignments for days absent.

REMEMBER!  When you put school to the side, there is always a possibility that you might not complete your

education!  Based on availability, the school cannot guarantee a secure seat in a class upon your return,

forcing you to drop until a seat becomes available!  Once you drop, the clock starts ticking for the repayment of your loans, up to your entire tuition!

Why pay all the money and have nothing to show for it??? Ultimately, taking time off is a personal decision and everyone’s situation is unique. We are simply suggesting that you think about it, and then think some more. Are you committed to finishing school? Have you made a promise to yourself that you will come back to school and finish? The greatest risk that you take is that you won't come back. This is your future, so don't throw it all away. It's very important that you handle the decision with care.
