Daily life is filled with stages that take different forms and are populated by actors who live out their unique lives on display for others.

Santa Monica is the termination point for the iconic Route 66 and situated right at the terminus is Bridging Theater. As Route 66 Winds through the country on its way to the WEst Coast, Users experience huge varieties of cultures and customs along the way. They are observers of the people on America’s Stage. Bridging theater exposes some of these stages, areas where the curtain is strategically lifted and people are exposed to others, acknowledging small moments in their lives - a snapshot of their story. As users move up or down the tower, these short ‘performances’ add up to a full experience as movement weaves in and out of the curtain panels. In some places,
In some places, only legs or torso can be viewed, creating small pieces of observation, assembled into a full experience by the observer. While the tower acts as a sort of stage, at its base exists a landscape conducive to more formal performances, vital to the culture of the beachfront area. visual connections
Spr ing 2012 H untington, IN ICM A S tude nt Competition | Third Place
Connecting to the history of a place can open eyes and unlock ideas that other design concepts are unable to tap into. The city of Huntington lies along what used to be one of the most traveled river canals in Indiana, and the design of this Cultural Museum places visitors in the place of a ship in a canal, immersing them into the experience of traveling through a lock system. In this case, each lock is represented by a gallery space, changing height in section and connecting visitors to the history through movement.

Primary Truss Members The primary spanning members are designed to shape the roof in ways that optimize the entry of diffuse light into the space
Secondary Truss Members
Partitions Integral with columns These members subdivide the galleries and create intimate spaces for social interaction to develop
Columns and Bearing Walls Heavily focused on masonry design for the project, the structure is primarily concrete masonry unit in the form of bearing walls that flank each gathering space

This project is an installation for a small residence, where privacy and transparency become key factors in how people view it and interact with it. Meeting a set of visual criteria meant that its form needs to be thoughtful in how it addresses the window and users behind it. By using solar impact as the primary influence on the design of the installation, issues of privacy and transparency were able to be studied and then applied to future iterations of the parametric model.

This project is a study in maximizing values based on certain criteria. The proposed design for a high rise mixed use building takes advantage of some historic neighboring towers, and beautiful views to the river while preserving its own environmental efficiencies. Creating the maximum number of rooms, within th build envelope, that contained views to each landmark proved structurally challenging. That necessitated the structural core and external diagrid system that allows for steep overhangs and organic forms in the building’s section.

Concept Sketch Spr ing 2012
Organized along two perpendicular axes, the design of this church acknowledges the importance and respect to the religious aspect while not alienating visitors with secular beliefs to the surrounding park. The sanctuary is designed as an inverted cube to maximize daylight from the south and to create a very special experience for users who are attending to get closer to God. The quality of the site exists in the duration of the visit; that a family can arrive Sunday morning and make an entire day out of it.

The Green Workforce Training Center is a school where professionals working in the construction and design industries will attend classes on sustainability strategies and techniques and how to apply these value measures within their own companies. It is a school that is meant to inspire the minds of students to come out with a new understanding of space and environmental impacts. The existing site is a pier on the Brooklyn side of the East River in New York that is currently vacant and inaccessible to the public. That being said, the river and the Manhattan skyline become highly integrated into the design, as well as the residents of Brooklyn.
The intent of the design is to enable students to become more aware of the physical and systematic connections between the built environment and those of nature. Weaving the building into its unique environment creates a sense of connection, through multiple senses, between the busy city, the activity inside the building and the natural rhythm of the river. The nature of work done in the building lends to the use of sustainable techniques, many of which are implemented in the design, providing examples and inspiration for students. Seeing the sustainable systems in action can prove irreplaceable to students who yearn for a total understanding of the ideas. 23
24
The proposed site plan takes full advantage of unique location conditions and keeps in mind the local Brooklyn community and its need for access to the river and a fresh start. Portions of the pier are cut away to expose the river, providing opportunities for people to go fishing and boating, while the whole site acts as a sort of stepping stone between Brooklyn and Manhattan.
25
Classrooms to Face Manhattan Classrooms are oriented and views are created toward the city to inspire students; to create a goal for them to reach for and achieve through the sustainable ideas taught at the Training Center.

Alternating Natural and Built Spaces Program areas are open to the roof structure above, allowing natural ventilation to occur across the building.
27
In thinking of the functionality of the design, several unique strategies are implemented to aid in the comfort of the users and the atmosphere of the space. A raised floor system in the classrooms acts as a plenum, to allow a consistent and comfortable ventilation solution while providing easy access to hidden electronic equipment. A large diffuser evenly spreads daylight around the classrooms yearround, improving the atmosphere of the space and the performance of students. A plenum exists above the diffuser where moving air is allowed to circulate, encouraging upward ventilation through the space, originating in underneath the raised floor. It is important that different systems work together to unlock each’s maximum potential.
28
The repeating light wells act as semi-private spaces that visually acknowledge and connect to the river. The classrooms that hold the students, the thinkers of tomorrow look onto the Manhattan skyline toward progress. Outdoor green spaces are oriented and scaled to reference the skyline and create connections back into the building.

As much of Earth has become covered in water, the planet has become inhospitable for sustaining human life and mankind is now looking to the skies for a chance to Exit Earth in an effort to preserve the species and its knowledge. By integrating a space observatory and information storage, this vessel searches the galaxy for habitable planets, analyzes their properties and prepares for exploratory missions. Once a habitable planet has been found, a launch vehicle departs from the vessel with a small human party and some of the stored genetic information.
Using the preserved human and plant DNA information, settlers to other worlds will be able to rebuild in the image of Earth. This Project is a highly conceptual investigation into an issue that, while exagerrated, is nonetheless Architecturally significant and impactful. how will Architects create Designs that respond to and Anticipate future conditions?
