FASHION FOWARD

SPRING Collections

The spring collections of top designers experienced a virtual makeover and provided plenty of inspiration for how to update our wardrobes at home. As we enter the new season, a fresh outlook was presented on wardrobe style.

ANCHOR’S AWAY

Nautical notes appeared at a number of shows, including the anchor-covered intarsia-knit sweaters at Gucci, exaggerated Breton-style tops at Dolce & Gabbana, and sailor sweaters at the Casablanca show.

BOMBERS ARE BACK

Bomber jackets are going to be big for Spring/Summer 2021, and each designer had their own take on the iconic jacket. The 1970s-style cropped bomber jackets in functional nylon at Gucci, the classic high-shine flight jackets at Philipp Plein, the cropped minimalist bombers at both Prada and Hermès… the list goes on and on…

WIDE LEGS ARE PEAKING

Like in women’s spring fashion, men are claiming widelegged trousers as their own. Nearly every menswear designer sent out their takes down the virtual runways. Zegna and Casablanca, cut theirs with pleats and draped them with a fluidity. Gucci and Hermès trousers were cut high and with a retro vibe. MSGM, Dolce & Gabbana and Rick Owens made them sporty. One thing that remained consistent across the brands? Roomy is now trendy.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE LEGS

Designers made a tacit agreement that a long leg is the silhouette of the season. Chloé offered A-line minis and Etro applied its paisley print to cut-off jean shorts. The house of Versace came out with super-short skirts and mixed a clash of prints and patterns on pleats.

NO MORE SWEATPANTS – TROUSERS HAVE RETURNED

Perhaps a year of living in sweat and yoga pants has become stale. Perhaps the pendulum has just naturally shifted back. The 2021 collections offer plenty of choices in trousers. Among them are wide-leg, roomy kind seen everywhere from Louis Vuitton to Jacquemus.

CLING AWAY

It’s not just the bottoms that have shifted either. After a year of comfy, oversized tops – clingy, form-fitting fashion in on the upswing. Sensual, body-revealing clothing is the story at brands like Givenchy and Versace.
