PROVOKING THE IMAGINATION
CHRISTINE VINEYARD
Christine Vineyard is a local D.C. artist and art teacher. She works with all mediums but concentrates on photography, drawing and painting. She has a BFA in Art Education and a MA in Education. Originally from Atlanta, Christine relocated to D.C. for her teaching career and has worked with all ages from preschool to adults.
During the throes of the Covid pandemic, Christine sought a way to fill the days when her middle school closed in March. She felt inspired to help her favorite restaurants, cafes and bars and picked up her tablet and stylus and started drawing. She then posted her art on her Instagram account.
What she created depicted some of Washington’s most iconic restaurant fronts. A streetscape of Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street, a customer in line at Takorean, and the exterior of Union Market, all rendered in bright colors contrasted against blue skies. The proceeds from each print will go to hunger-fighting nonprofit DC Central Kitchen.
Since then, she has rolled out 55 illustrations of D.C. businesses and restaurants and intends to keep adding to the collection.
