GLOBAL TALL BUILDINGS' AWARD WINNER 2016 MIPIM FUTURE PROJECT AWARDS SKAI Holdings was awarded the ‘Tall Buildings’ prize at this year’s Architectural Review MIPIM Awards for the unique design of the Viceroy Jumeirah Village Dubai project. The 60 storey tower beat off competition from 25 other global projects including Saudi Arabia’s Kingdon Tower, London’s Mile High Tower and the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences, One Dalton Street, Boston. This is the second major design win after winning the 2015 Leisure and Hospitality Project of the Year at the Middle East Architect Awards. The design of the property has been patented and registered as a trade mark by SKAI in 168 countries. Following from the success of this design, SKAI plans to replicate similar structures in other major cities around the world.

TOURISM Inbound traffic to Dubai grew by 7.6% in 2015 and this positive trend in tourism is expected to continue in coming years due to Dubai’s increasing global popularity as a destination backed by the Government’s pro-tourism initiatives. Dubai’s hotels welcomed more than 14.2 million guests in 2015. An increase of over one million on the 2014 numbers and a positive indication that Dubai is on the way to achieving its target of welcoming 20 million visitors a year by 2020. Occupancy rates for citywide hotels increased from 78% to 80%, while the occupancy rate for hotel apartments was 82%.
INVENTORY The number of hotel rooms and apartments at the end of 2015 amounted to a total of 98,333 across 677 establishments. In order to accommodate the target numbers for 2020, dubai will need a total of 160,000 rooms.
