Playing in the team’s opening night lineup, Gunnnarsson went on to play in 20 games before dropping to an injured reserve thanks to an upper-body injury. Gunnarsson played an important role in the Blues’ playoff qualification in 2016, scoring a goal against the Vancouver Canucks.

2019 STANLEY CUP FINALS A career high for Gunnarsson came in 2019 when he recorded seven points in 25 games, which helped the St. Louis Blues to qualify for

the Stanley Cup Finals in 2019. Having lost in Game 1 of the Finals, the game against the Boston Bruins went into overtime to decide the winner of Game 2. Gunnarsson pressed his coach to give him the opportunity to score and went on to score the game-winning goal, which was the first time the St. Louis Blues had ever won a game in the Stanley Cup Finals. A historic moment for the Blues, Gunnarsson’s goal brought an end to the club’s 52-year losing streak, and was their first Stanley Cup win.
