The Major Difference between a Real Estate Agent and a Real Estate Broker? The Major Difference Between an agent and a broker is that the broker must complete more coursework. Mutually hold licenses and are allowed to sell houses. Because brokers spend a little longer learning, they can do some things that agents can't do. For example, they can be able to a brokerage. If you work for a real estate corporation, you can be an agent and sell houses. However, if you are self-governing, you must be a broker. In layman's terms, brokers have more power and extra responsibility than Real Estate Agents. They complete more schooling and therefore have more data of the business. Typically, agents work under brokers.
