The only outdoor space for the school will be its courtyard, which is around 200 sq.m, it was also where we would build over with the music hall. We do not wish to sacrifice this precious out-door space. Thus, we hovered the music hall above the courtyard, which would retain the courtyard space by converting it into a semi-outdoor auditorium and playground area, hence gaining a music hall.

Hong Kong is infamous for its sky-high property prices and high living standards. Everyone, except the 8% elites and company tycoons, are suffering. Millennial suffered the most, and some of them are even contemplating on leaving Hong Kong for good. As a research lead architecture studio, we have learned this: contrary to the popularized stereotype, most millennial (i.e. 23 to 35 years old) do work hard. Millennial who are ascertaining certain degree of successes (e.g. young celebrity chefs, musicians, PhD students, start-up owners, designers etc.), both locals or expats, are craving for individuality and private spaces.

The client’s brief was to devise a proposal to adaptively reuse an existing structure and turn into a kindergarten. The existing structure were very porous without a facade, thus much of the implied space is opened. King's Kindegarten

The design concept is to preserve the atrium as the visual and behavioral focus for childrens to interact.

This work was inspired by the “Journey to the West, a Chinese classic literature which depicts the adventure of the legendary the concept was to draw inspirationfrom the novel and brought “Yushan”, the ethereal place from the story Jade Mountain, into the real world.

The design team’s choice to build a space with functioning 4WD toy car tracks was heavily inspired by the company’s slogan “The Endless Road”, which has inspired us to define the space with mini racecar tracks that children and hobbyist play with. The winding “roads” that defines the space became a symbol of nostalgia, reminding us of our childhood, whilst embodying the spirit of Road King’s motto

We have produced one speculation into afuture recapitulation of our traditional urban elements where the street is no longer entirely subdued by transportation, buildings are no longer confined to the needs and resources in which they are built, and humans design their own structures through a democratic aggregation of citizen data. Streets become a place to inhabit, coexist and interact with people, pets, autonomous cars, and any future technological assets. We seek to inhabit the space where modularity and formalism leverage their unique attributes to produce a wildly formal, flexible, porous, and sustainable urban ether. Spaces evolve to accommodate the spatial needs people have as they eat, walk, recreate, and socialize. In this way, our project marks a deviation from the megalomaniacal modernists roaming free and promulgates a solitary democratic ethos: urbanism should be a reflection and a refraction of its inhabitants.
