Best Science Fair Projects

Best Science Fair Projects In trying to decide what project to do for your science fair, you are going to run into a lot of the same ideas as your peers. For the most part, kids just are not that creative. Instead, they tend to gravitate toward the same experiments that you have seen over and over again. In choosing your project, you want to make sure that you are balancing fun with originality. As you will soon find out, the most fun can also be the most common, which means your project seems less great. Here are some of the worst projects you can choose followed by the best.

Bad Volcano

This is probably the single most common science experiment that kids will do in their lives. How do I know? Well, literally every television show in a school has featured the volcano eruption. The show AP Bio made fun of this in an episode where multiple teachers do this display on a day where they are trying to show off their creativity. It backfires, as you might imagine. I also know because I was one of the simpletons that did this project. It is so easy. All you need to do is build the volcano shape. The “chemical reaction is just vinegar and baking soda, sometimes with red food coloring. Wow. How impressive. (Sarcasm sold separately).

Potato Battery

It is pretty cool to see a light that is powered by a potato one time. But after that first time, it is just a potato. Honestly, potatoes are just pretty boring in general. Apologies to Ireland and Idaho. Unfortunately, you are not going to get anyone jazzed up about this project, so it is best to avoid it.

Shiny Pennies

Some people think that it is really cool to use vinegar and other chemicals to strip the dirt off of a penny and leave it shiny. The only thing is, like the potato, nobody cares about the penny. It is

such a waste that people tend to throw them away or do not care if they toss one on the ground. Value yourself more than a penny.

Good Rubber Eggs

This is almost as simple as the volcano or shiny pennies, but somehow, it is just way cooler. All you really need is vinegar and an egg to do it and you end up with a pretty cool result. This might be for younger kids, but turning an egg into a bouncy ball is going to make people smile.

Hovercraft

This definitely requires a little parental supervision, especially if you need to use the leaf blower, but it also creates one of the most incredible results. Other kids will be desperate to ride your invention when you show it off. You basically get to live like a Jetson and get school credit for it. Sign me up.

Homemade Lava Lamp

Using the properties of oil and water, you can make some pretty funky science. With some added food coloring and Alka Seltzer tablets, you can create your own colorful globs that move through the liquid mixture. It is easy, cool, and fun.
