How An MBA Gives You The Edge

Some students think that immediately pursuing a graduate degree in business after your undergraduate studies is a great way to give yourself the edge on the job market when the time comes to actually make money. Starting when you are in high school and really have to start thinking about what you want to do with your life, you also start the procrastination process. Instead of actually thinking about what makes you happy every day and finding a way to build the skills necessary to succeed in that field, many people follow the track of life. They work as hard as they can to get into a great college that allows versatile options for study and an attractive resume point when that comes up, but it is really just kicking the can down the line in finding your life. Again, MBA programs seem like a good option if you want to study business and are not ready to jump into the real world. This mindset is why it is so great to see companies that are willing to pay for their employees to get an education. The process, which is becoming

more rare, is one that has great benefits for companies that are invested in their employees success. These days, loyalty is at an all-time low. Young employees are enjoying job mobility more than ever and two years is around the time where people look for something different. For companies, it is a big investment to pay for an employee to go to graduate school, so it is even more costly if that employee takes that education and leaves for another opportunity. That fear and tension between employer and employee is the key difference between strong companies and companies that are in danger. Allowing your employees to get an MBA is more than just giving them the edge because they have the knowledge to succeed in the business setting. It is also about setting the right tone and culture within a company. When you invest in someone, that is how trust is built. People discount the value of a long-tenured employee, but there are things that a veteran of the corporate culture can achieve that someone who is not as versed in the life will miss out on. When a company allows their employees to better themselves, they put that back into the company. How could you choose to leave when the company invested in your education? You would at least pay them back with hard work and some service time. When you are in a culture where you feel empowered, it converts your motivation from extrinsic to intrinsic. Instead of caring about your paycheck, you care about making an impact for the people that believe in you. It becomes about more than just yourself because you have a team at your back. That feeling is something you should hold onto because the same way that employees cut the cord, so do employers. The trust of a commitment like graduate school means that you are safe to worry about the job, not about everything surrounding it.
