How to Make Learning English Easy with English Tutors
One of the great things about working with an English tutor is that they are able to cater lessons directly to the students. This means that the tutor can move from being a teacher to
being the curator of education content that the student needs to get. You might need to improve in certain ares or challenge yourself in others, all of which you can figure out with your tutor. Instead of doing what everyone else is doing, you can do what feels right for you by working
with a tutor. Here are some techniques that English tutors might use to help you drill home the material.
Performing When you get to Shakespeare in your English studies, many teachers assign a project where students must memorize lines from one of the plays and perform them in front of the class. On the face of it, this might seem like a simple lesson in memorization, but that would be an
oversimplification. In reality, simply remembering the lines does very little to help make you
into a more complete adult. The real purpose of the exercise is to see how you are able to interpret the material. One of the best ways to remember the lines is to remember the meaning behind them. Digging deeper into the emotions of the character and embodying them in your performance, you are able to make the lines feel natural to you, but also show that you understand the intent and motivation and can critically analyze the text.
Media If you are like me, every time that you got assigned a book to read, the first two places to go were SparkNotes and Blockbuster to get the best summary I can and potentially get a chance to see a movie adaptation. The good thing about most American literary classics is that there are
film versions, although the quality is subject to change. A great tutor can relate the lessons that
they are trying to teach to the storylines of modern day television and film. Looking back on my own personal education, I can recall far more of the material via videos that we watched than I can with dry lectures. The best of the best are able to weave media in seamlessly with the
lessons to make sure that students get the best of the entertaining side as well as the education side.
Games One of the ways that you can engage students as well as teach them is through games that challenge their abilities. For example, English tutors can use a Jeopardy style game to help teach different concepts, using categories such as grammar, spelling, reading comprehension, poetry, and more. Doing this, you can take some of the boredom out of learning and capture attention
through the spirit of competition. There are a lot of students that get much more engaged in the material when you add in incentives, but that does not mean that you are going to have to pay them money or anything like that. You can inspire them if you use their competitiveness to show them how they can succeed in English.
