The ‘Mardi Gras’ of the South West! This annual illuminated event is a celebration of light, music and colour. It is thought to have dated back to 1871 wending its way through nearly every street in the town and ending on the beach where bonfires where lit and effigies of Guy Fawkes and other unpopular figures were burned. This year’s event is expected to include around 130 entries including large illuminated floats and marching bands, which can all be seen from the comfort of our coach if you wish.

Windsor Castle Dressed for Christmas

This winter explore the Christmas display at Windsor Castle, including a striking Nordmann Fir Tree which forms the centrepiece of the festive display. Enjoy free time in Bury St Edmunds, a beautiful town with over 1,000 years of history, presided over by St Edmundsbury Cathedral and elegant yellow brick houses line the regular pattern of streets, complemented by the Abbey Gardens.
We head to the guildhall to enjoy a tour of the Operations Room, where you will learn about the way the Royal Observer Corps plotted and observed enemy aircraft from observers in Norfolk and Suffolk to help coordinate the RAF missions.

Call the Midwife Tour

Windsor and Windsor Castle

Our visit to the historic market town of Windsor is home to the world famous Windsor Castle which has for over 900 years been continuously inhabited and has been improved and restored by successive monarchs. Our visit includes the magnificent State Apartments, which are furnished with some of the finest works from the Royal collection. St George’s Chapel, which was the setting for the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018, is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England. Ten monarchs and senior Royal Family members are buried here including Henry VIII and Charles I, and more recently King George VI, Queen Elizabeth (The Queen Mother) and Princess Margaret.

Steaming through the Cotswolds to Cheltenham

At lunchtime we board the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, from the newly extended station at Broadway, and now the new northern terminus. We travel on a single journey through the beautiful Cotswold countryside, lasting about an hour, to Cheltenham, where our coach will be waiting to transport you to central Cheltenham to enjoy a few free hours. The spa town offers glorious gardens, an impressive range of shops and fabulous museums.

Tower of London

Chartwell, Kent

Chartwell was a place that truly inspired Sir Winston Churchill. Bought by him in 1922, the house is still much as it was when the family lived there –pictures, books and personal momentoes evoking the career and wide-ranging interests of this influential family.
The studio is home to the largest single collection of Churchill’s paintings. Chartwell’s gardens include the lakes he created, the kitchen garden and the Marycot.

Lichfield and the National Memorial Arboretum Monday 24th March
We first visit Lichfield, famous for its three spired cathedral and old-worlde charm. In the afternoon we visit the National Memorial Arboretum, which comprises 150 acres of trees and 130 memorials of national significance. We include a seat on the Land Train, with commentary, where the 50 minute journey will introduce you to some of the memorials including ‘Shot at Dawn Memorial’, ‘The Polish Armed Forces Memorial’, ‘The RAF Remembrance Garden’, and views across the Naval Review. We include a two course lunch.
