Little Leaves Design by Susanna IC Inspired by lush green leaves shimmering with droplets of morning dew, Little Leaves shawlette with its smaller size will make a great addition to any wardrobe. The design includes beads for extra textural detail, but the lace will look great even if left unadorned. This wrap is knitted in one piece starting at the outside edge of the lace section followed by short rows, which give the shawlette its unique crescent form. The elongated narrow shape offers numerous ways of tying and draping without the need for a shawl pin. This project is not difficult even for the beginner lace knitter since the stitch pattern is very simple to knit and easy to memorize. The reverse rows are purled and the addition of beads is optional. Finished Size: 17”/ 43cm x 54”/ 137cm blocked Yarn: Any lace or fingering weight yarn; the original was completed with approximately 370 yards of Malabrigo Lace (100% Baby Merino wool; 470 yards / 50 grams); color VAA Gauge: 16 sts / 22 rows = 4" / 10 cm in stockinette, after blocking; correct gauge is not critical for this project, but your final measurements and yardage requirements may vary if your gauge is different Needles: 32” / 80 cm US 7 / 4.50 mm circular needle Notions: Approximately 130 6/0 4 mm beads (optional) Crochet hook size 14 / 0.75mm (small enough to fit through holes of beads, optional) Stitch markers (optional) Yarn needle Blocking pins Pattern Notes: Loose cast on is essential for successful project; go up one needle size if your CO is usually tight. In addition, to help eliminate the guesswork of leaving a long-enough tail, you can use both ends of a center-pull ball for CO. The simple or twisted loop COs work well with this lace edge, but should be followed by one purled row before starting the lace chart. All wrong side rows are purled and are not included in the lace chart.

Bead Placement: The beads are placed using a slender steel crochet hook. To place a bead on a stitch, insert the hook through the hole in the bead and slide the bead up onto the hook. Pick the stitch off the needle with the hook and slide the bead down onto the stitch. Slip the stitch back to left needle and knit it. Centered Double Decrease: Insert right needle into front of the next two stitches from left to right, slip the stitches together off the left needle. Knit the next stitch. With the left needle pass the two slipped stitches over the knit stitch and off the needle. (Sl2 as if to knit, k1, psso)

Shawl: Loosely CO 331 sts. Complete rows 1 - 40 of the lace chart; 199 sts rem on needles. You may want to place stitch marker after each pattern repeat. For a wider lace section of the shawlette repeat rows 15 through 27 one or more times, as desired. Please note that your yarn and bead requirements will increase with additional repeats. Work short rows, removing all stitch markers: K103, turn. P7, turn. K6, ssk, k3, turn. P9, p2tog, p3, turn. K12, ssk, k3, turn. P15, p2tog, p3, turn. K18, ssk, k3, turn. P21, p2tog, p3, turn. Continue short rows as established, always using ssk or p2tog to close the short row gap and then working additional 3 sts before turning, until all sts have been worked. Cast off row (RS): P2tog to end. Finishing: Weave in all loose ends. Block piece to measurements and shape as shown. Start with the two short sides followed by the lace center point, then pin out the rest of the points along the edge. When completely dry, remove pins and trim all yarn tails.
