Who is the Northwest Ohio Reiki Group? The Northwest Ohio Reiki Group is a public group designed to create a network between Reiki practitioners and students in the Northwest Ohio area. The group was founded on Facebook in July of 2013. While this group has remained small it is the mission of this group to have a safe space to ask questions, share experiences, connect with others who practice Reiki and begin to build a bond amongst practitioners. While this group is reserved for Reiki practitioners and students, we have pulled together resources from practitioners in the area to compose this monthly magazine to promote holistic health, as well as provide spiritual guidance outside of our day-‐to-‐day services. If you are a Reiki practitioner and are interested in this group, please feel free to join us on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ northwestohioreiki/ We look forward to provide more services in the future and wish you all the greatest amount of Love, Light and Healing! Enjoy! John Wheeler

“Be here…now.” - Ram Dass, Be Here Now
By Gina Tatsumi We are all on a spiritual journey, whether we recognize it or not, is another matter. Often times in my spiritual Reiki practice I have come across people trying to find their path. It was through the suggestion of such a journeying, answer seeking client that compelled me to begin to write for “The Lakewood Observer”... Alas…hmmm… where to begin. What grand message do I have to offer? What pearls of wisdom can I, little old me, bestow upon my fellow journey seekers? As I lie awake pondering such a quest, it occurred to me that I was trying to define an experience to share. That moment of time that changed my life, or brought me wisdom, or helped me find my path. It was in trying to find that “moment”, that it hit me. It’s all about The Moment. This moment…right here…right now. I had received a copy of the book “Be Here Now” by Ram Dass. His quotes are simple, yet elusive. I am not suggesting that we all need to travel off to faraway lands of mystery and psychedelics filled with gurus high atop mountains to have such a moment. These times can come to us every day, in every moment. We just need to pay attention. When we become more mindful, through such practices of Yoga, meditation, Reiki, and prayer, perhaps that is when we can begin to lose so much. Lose you say? Why yes. Lose. We begin to lose our worry, our guilt, our pain, our shame, and our feelings of despair. If we consider that we are truly comprised of energy, and that we are spirit having a human experience, well now, that my friends...is a game changer. (And also a topic for another time.)
3 When we can begin to look through the troubles of life as a spiritual experience, it can help us come to realize that everything can and does happen to us for a reason. Sometimes for our best interest, sometimes in spite of us thinking we are doing the best things. I am constantly telling myself that this or that too, shall pass. The only constant is change. And it comes quickly, fleetingly. As a parent, it seemed as if my children would always be small sticky fingered, crying (sometimes) bundles of exhausting joy. And yet, it was a mere moment in time. They are now fully grown productive adults on their own paths, journeys. But I digress. When we allow ourselves to get caught up in a moment, we can experience things on a much deeper level. Open our senses to our surroundings. The breeze of warmth on a sunny day, the birds, or the sounds of waves crashing, can all help to create and define our moments. Often times we are facing a difficult situation, someone will say, “Well ya’ know, when a door shuts, a window is opened.” And yet somehow, we become so stuck on the door is shut. We panic― Oh, the window is open…Oh! Hey! The window is open! By trying to be more mindful of our space, and our time, in this moment, we are allowing ourselves to recognize that everything connects. And perhaps in that connectedness we can truly begin to experience our moments. And perhaps through our own moments of being more mindful, we can gain appreciation for the small things. Those fleeting moments are to become a mere memory.

Love is a State of Being By: Elaine Melody Hiatt Songs are written, poems are created, tales have been woven, and myths have been founded on the topic of love. Spiritual traditions all espouse the power of love. Yet the concept of love remains an enigma to most. There is romantic love, love for a family member, a friend, a pet, and even chocolate. These all refer to love as an emotional feeling. I believe the deepest meaning of love is: understanding love as a state of being. A state of being is foundational. It does not come and go as the ebbs and flows of emotion. You can have many feelings in a given day, but a state of being provides grounding, an anchor for the impermanent nature of physicality. In a state of being of love, I can experience pleasure, sadness, grief, anger, and joy -Ââ€? a myriad of surface feelings that are part of the nature of human existence. Yet anchored in the state of love, I can trust that all is well, even when it feels it is not.
"I believe the deepest meaning of love is: understanding love as a state of being." Love as a state of being is our deepest nature, our most natural state. It is like the seabed over which all life flows. When we connect with this state of being we are not only in love, but we are Love. How do we access this? Finding the ways that work best for us is part of the journey. For some it is being quiet in nature, feeling that deep peace and joy that arises as we rest in that space. For others it may be in some method of meditation, prayer, focusing on appreciation, or simply petting our dog. It always involves quieting our mind in some way and allowing ourselves to feel who we are instead of thinking about it.
Initially, emotions may arise that we have suppressed. If we can let those simply flow through us, allowing these to just be experienced without a running commentary, not creating or telling a story about “why we feel what we do, these energies will dissipate. It’s the naming of these energies and insisting on stories about them that causes us to get stuck in them. Energy flows when unimpeded.
5
As these energies subside, we sink into stillness, and there we find relief from the frenzied madness of the world. It was within us all along, just patiently being. The relationship we have been seeking is the relationship with our real self, which is not a personality but this expansive being of Love. Like any relationship, it strengthens as we give time to it. We return to the world rejuvenated, smiling, and sharing this gift simply by bringing back this aura of love with us, like a chocolate covered strawberry for the soul. This delicious energy then infuses us, and love becomes not only a state of being, but expresses as a verb. Love acts in the world. We have returned changed, and the world changes with us. This is the single most loving act we can do, immerse ourselves in the truth of our being, Love, and allow it
"We have returned changed, and the world changes with us."

Self Love is a Journey By: Teresa Bartchlett
Self -‐love is not taught to most. It seems like it should be a natural but it can be difficult to understand the importance of self -‐love. If someone were to ask you: “Do you love yourself?” You would say yes only because after you think about it, you don’t hate yourself so you must love yourself, right? No, not true. If we treated our friends the way we treat ourselves we would not have friends.
"You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love & affection." -Buddha
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Matt Kahn’s channelings at “true divine nature” opened my mind and my heart. I didn’t realize the importance of self -‐love until I started to feel it. At first, it feels weird to tell yourself “ I love you”, but eventually it begins to feel good. The process, and I believe it is a process, starts by not only telling yourself “I love you” but by making choices with feelings, your heart. By doing things that are good for you like eating healthier, respecting your body, exercise, getting healing work done on yourself, etc.
"Love is the great miracle cure. Loving ourselves works miracles in our lives." - Louise L. Hay That could mean different things for different people but the bottom line is this. The more you love and accept yourself, the higher you vibrate and in return the more positive experiences and people you attract. If you want all the things that are your birthright like good health, prosperity, success, good relationships it all starts within with self love.
"I celebrate myself, and sing myself." - Walt Whitman

10 oz. Happy Water
¥
1 Green Tea Bag (1-‐3t)
¥
1 Garlic Clove, minced
¥
1/2t Fresh Ginger Root, slicedminced/grated
¥
Lemon Juice, to taste
¥ Honey, to taste ! Method ¥ Combine first four ingredients in a sauce pan ¥ Bring to a rolling boil ¥ Reduce heat to simmer ¥
Continue to simmer over low heat for 10 minutes
¥
Strain into mug (compost the used tea, garlic & ginger)
¥
Add lemon juice and honey
¥
Enjoy as often as desired
This is a great recipe because on the average day, most people can find the majority of these ingredients in their pantry. However, if you don’t have these items on hand, go out and pick them up. They are relatively inexpensive and even fresh, these ingredients keep quite a long time. Fresh, local and organic ingredients are the best choice, but you may also choose to use dried garlic or dried or crystalized ginger in a pinch. Bottled lemon juice can also be an option. Basically what I am saying is “Work with what you’ve got.” Also, be sure to get plenty of rest and find ways to respond more positively to the stressors in your life (even if that is to simply ignore them). Enjoy & be well!

Crystal of the Month: Celestite - "Teacher for the New Age"
By: Lia Ricci Celestite supports the crown and throat chakras, allowing access to the higher vibrations and communication of the angelic realms. Therefore it is a wonderful stone for those receiving, translating and sharing messages from the angels. It is a beautiful and gentle stone that seeks to assist us in clarity of thought and verbal expression.
Ohio Celestite is greatly sought after as a “healing stone of our time” due to it’s ability to heal, balance & strengthen our throat chakra -‐ ultimately allowing us to speak our greatest truth to the world. Celestite from Madagascar is known for it’s deep rich color and uniquely “speak your unconditional love-‐ing” energy.
When using Celestite in a crystal lay out, she most often wishes to be placed on or around the throat chakra, as she wants to imbue our words and communication (with others, as well as with ourselves) with a clear understanding of love & compassion.
Chakra of the Month:
9
The Heart Chakra - Anahata By: John Wheeler Symbols of the Heart Chakra: Color -‐ Green Crystals -‐ Green Aventurine, Rose Quartz Location -‐ Center of Chest Body -‐ Thymus Gland Sense -‐ Touch
Signs of imbalance in the heart chakra include chest pains, high/low blood pressure and poor circulation. When your heart chakra is under-‐active you will tend to hang onto negative feelings, feelings of loneliness, unworthy of love and unappreciated. If you have an over-‐active heart center you may have extreme emotions such as sadness, anger, despair and greediness. You may also have large shifts in emotions. People with overactive heart chakras also show co-‐dependency issues.
When you find yourself with an unbalanced heart chakra you must first recognize what imbalance you are experiencing. Begin to consider your love for yourself and your relationships with others. Do you have a relationship where you are giving more love than you receive? Are you place a wall around your heart and refusing to open yourself to others? When you find this imbalance, listen to some soothing music while laying a rose quartz on your chest or say daily affirmations about your strength and love.

Card of the Month: Learn Something New By: John Wheeler The card for the month of February is "Learn Something New." February is a month of love and growth. The angels are giving the message to us to keep our faith and to continue our journeys down the path of light. In order to continue we must continue our studies and consider new lessons. Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. In the cards image we see an angel testing the water. Are you someone who tests the waters or just jumps in head first?
Doreen's Card Description: Indigos are strong-‐willed, intuitive leaders with innate spiritual skills, including the ability to clearly recognise the truth. Yet, in this complicated world, even Indigos need assistance in knowing the next step to take in their mission, as well as relationships and other life areas. That's why Charles Virtue (an Indigo himself) and his mother, Doreen Virtue, created these Indigo Angel Oracle Cards specifically for Indigo children and adults (along with their parents and teachers). Each of the 44 beautifully illustrated cards contains a special message from the angels. The accompanying guidebook explains the meanings in a way that is simple and to the point -‐ after all, Indigos are on a mission and have no time to waste!
Affirmations of the Month:
11
By: John Wheeler "I am completely and unconditionally loving of myself and through this I have love for others." When we love ourselves completey we are able to improve our relationships with other. If we cannot love outselves we cannot expect anyone to love us. While loving ourselves is difficult, it is not impossible and this great affirmation is a fantastic way to start the healing process.
"My heart is large, my heart is healthy and my heart is connected to the world." Constantly allowing ourselves to be of service to others is a great way to maintain our connection to the world. When we are able to see that our small changes make a world of difference, we can change the world around us. Every action we take creates a ripple effect. This affirmation is a nice way to connect with the world around us and continue to build a web of love in a world full of darkness.

Herb of the Month: Aloe Vera - Aloe Barbadensis
By: John Wheeler Aloe vera is common plant that is sold as a live plant in many retail stores. Aloe vera is a plant that stores water in its leaves and therefore makes for a great indoor plant. They are a plant that is easy to keep and easy to use. Aloe vera juice can also be bought over-‐the-‐counter in most pharmaceutical and retail stores.
Aloe vera has many uses. The easiest way to use the plant is to break off a tip and apply the sap to the skin. The sap created by the plant acts as an anticeptic and can be used to treat many skin conditions including burns, rashes, and cuts. Small amounts of aloe vera juice can be ingested as a laxative. By drinking the aloe vera juice you are allowing for a cleanse of your stomach and intestines.

I was drawn by the title of her talk: "Embodying Truth". As soon as she started speaking, I was mesmerized. Statements of knowledge and truth were flowing out of her mouth in rapid fire succession. I was blown away. I couldn't write fast enough. She owned what she was saying! In a world that feeds us a steady diet of pablum, what Elaine offers is spiritual meat. She is extremely wise and her understanding of life and spiritual principals is married with the experience of a Master. In at least 3 subsequent counseling sessions with her, she shared so much truth with me that continues to help me. Equally important, I knew in our sessions that she was not judging me and was intuiting important information. Elaine helped me navigate numerous dark nights of the soul and I will be forever grateful to her. I cannot recommend her enough. She is nothing short of amazing. She lives her talk and embodies truth." Viola G., Pensacola, FL
