Sliding Doors

When Christchurch based Independent Doors moved their business, their quality extraction system was moved effortlessly with them!

Back in 2016 when Kim Lewis from Independent Doors in Christchurch chose NZDUCT+FLEX to specify, supply and install a new filter and ducting for their busy door factory, she already knew, from her own business philosophy, that buying quality doesn’t actually cost more – and that it always pays back in the long run.

Since 1994, Independent Doors has been providing high quality, high performance, standard and custom interior and exterior doors and sliders for the residential and commercial construction markets. Widely recognised among architects, contractors, designers, builders and professionals in the building industry, Independent Doors Ltd has earned a reputation for excellence in its field, taking pride in providing certified superior products at reasonable prices.

So 5 years after the initial filter installation, when due to rapid expansion, Independent Doors needed to relocate, the extraction system moved too in what Kim describes as a “seamless process”. “Due to the expertise, and unparalleled level of communication between Scott Saunders (the NZDUCT+FLEX local southern Sales Manager), Nav Sharma (the Installation Manager who worked on our original build), and Aaron Proctor, the Engineering Manager (who organised the final relocation of the filter), I did not have to concern myself with this part of the move at all” confirms Kim.

NZDUCT+FLEX employ their own fulltime permanent install staff so the initial part of the process was to send one team down to do a walk over the new site, discussing machine numbers and positions, and re-calculate final duct runs with a view to re-using 100% of the original LIPLOCK ® modular ducting to save money. The teams are building duct runs everyday so on the first site visit they quickly dismantled the entire ducting system and arranged transport for re-use at the new site along with the fan and complete filter (lifted by a hi-ab as one piece and repositioned outside the new premises).

With filter and fan correctly bolted down in their new home, both install teams from NZDUCT+FLEX worked together to join everything up using the original modular duct. Invariably there were changes to machine positions despite these being agreed just weeks previously, but due to the large LIPLOCK® stock holding in 3 warehouses in Auckland, the installers could over night solve all of the issues resulting from these changes.

To keep the environment dust free, the 3 bay double modular filter with 84 filter bags, can deal with up to 20,000m³ of air and dust per hour and can still be expanded in the future if required, by adding extra modules. As all the components i.e. the fan (JK45K:18.5kw), filter, filter bags and LIPLOCK® ducting all come from Danish JKF Industri, compatibility and performance of the whole system is assured.

Aaron Proctor, in charge of the Maintenance Service offered to all customers, revisited the site last month to check that the whole system was still operating to JKF’s required specifications and equal to when the filter was first installed 5 years ago. The filter is still running on the original filter socks due to being correctly specified in the first instance : a huge maintenance saving for the business.

Kim Lewis summed up, “NZDuct+Flex made our relocation process extremely easy, working with us to enable us to reuse the majority of our kit. The company provides great service, superb product, excellent expertise and above all unparallel levels of communication. I highly recommend NZ Duct to anyone looking for an extraction solution!”
