Welcome
W
elcome to the Kingdom of God. Your decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior changes everything. You have been born again. You have now been separated from your sin. Your very name has been written into the Lamb’s Book of Life. You have entered into an everlasting life as a child of the living God. This is cause for great celebration in Heaven and on earth. Jesus came to earth as God’s way of demonstrating that He longs to be close to His creation. There is nothing more satisfying than getting to know the love of God. Each day brings the promise of fresh fulfillment with His joy. He is the way, the truth, and the life. The reason for your first birth has been fulfilled—you have come to know God. Just as a newborn baby has special needs, so does a newborn believer in our Lord Jesus. This is your 15

Welcome
opportunity to start your new life by learning how to daily walk with our Messiah. We invite you to make My First 40 Days With the Lord a personal record of your honeymoon with the Lord. This will begin a lifelong journey of discovering the depth of your Father’s love for all people. The Word of God has been given to us as a blueprint for living. Within the Bible’s pages you will find unending treasures. May this book be your companion as you grow in faith and study the Holy Scriptures. Many new believers start their Bible reading with the Book of John. Within, you will be able to acquaint yourself with some of the best-known verses from John’s Gospel and see how they are intertwined with each of the books of the Old Testament. Our desire is for you to gain both an appreciation for the roots of our faith and revelations of God’s design. We encourage you to carve out a few minutes each day when you can sit quietly and enjoy the presence of our Lord. You will swiftly discover that He awaits you, always.

Day 1
In the Beginning John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all man. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it (John 1:1-5).

o one knows more about beginnings than the Creator of the universe. Beginnings determine our purpose and our goals. The Book of John tells us that, “In the beginning, the spoken Word of God became a living being. This living Word was present from the very beginning and was responsible for making everything that 17

was ever made. This life is represented by light. And this light shines in the darkness.
Reflection 1. How powerful is the Word of God? 2. Who was in the beginning with God? 3. How could everything be made through Him?

Genesis 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was 18

evening, and there was morning—the first day (Genesis 1:1-5).

od created the universe out of a void. There was no form; there were no materials to start with. This was the beginning of all creation. With only a Word, God created light. Next we discover that God said, “It is good.” Then He differentiated between light and darkness. And time began.
Reflection 1. How did God create the universe? 2. Where was the Spirit of God? 3. Why is there both light and darkness?
