ABOUT JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING MWR (MORALE, WELFARE, & RECREATION) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), a component of Warfighter & Family Readiness, is a comprehensive network whose goal is to provide quality support and recreational services that contribute to and enhance the lives of service members, their families, military retirees, Department of Defense employees, and other eligible participants. MWR strives to provide a quality of life to the Navy-Air Force Family that is commensurate with their sacrifice and service. MWR’s mission is to foster and support high productivity for our Navy-Air Force audience through mental and physical fitness, personal growth, a sense of community, positive values and Family well-being.

NAVY-AIR FORCE HALF MARATHON & 5-MILER HISTORY The Navy-Air Force Half Marathon is an annual race hosted by JBAB’s MWR. This prestigious race began as the Navy 5 Miler, which the Naval Support Activity Washington MWR started in 2004 in celebration of the Navy’s Birthday. The event organization has since transitioned to JBAB’s MWR as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) initiative. The BRAC initiative merged the Navy’s MWR on Anacostia Naval Annex with the Air Force’s Services Division on Bolling Air Force Base. This year marks the Half Marathon’s 6th year, and the 5 Miler’s 14th. Each Race begins and finishes at the Washington Monument on the National Mall in Washington, DC. This year, the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon and 5 Miler welcomes a record crowd for the event, with more than 8,500 registered runners. All proceeds from the 2017 Navy-Air Force Half Marathon and 5 Miler will go to supporting MWR’s programs and services, helping to further improve the quality of life for the United States active duty military and their families.
