Where does your water come from?

WHERE DID

YOUR YOUR WATER

COME FROM?

Burgos, Gaspar, Guia, Nebreja, Perez NATSCED DMAB - 2:40:5:40 PM

Mr. Water is a rainwater who is about to fall from the clouds. He is very excited because he had waited so long for this moment. Mr. Water dreams of being consumed by humans, which to his opinion is the ideal way of life, living in order to satisfy a human’s thirst. Finally, the time comes for Mr. Water to fall as rain onto Angat’s watershed.

From a plant leaf, Mr. Water slowly drips onto the Angat river. It was a marvelous sight, seeing all the other droplets accumulating into one big body of water. Angat Dam is just like how Mr. Water imagined a watershed to be.

DID YOU KNOW?: A watershed is the land upon which rain falls and flows to the most common body of water. Angat watershed, located in Norzagaray, Bulacan, has 620 square kilometres. Annual average rainfall of 4,200 millimeters. It is protected by the government because it also produces hydroelectric power.

So far Mr. Water is enjoying his journey towards his dream. As he continues to flow onto the river, he notices the other water around him are starting to become duller, sadder, and dirtier.

It's Mr. Water!

,He asked them, "What happened to you guys? Where are we?", to which a droplet responded, "It's Ipo Dam, it is not really protected enough by forest guards so we end up dirty here." Mr. Water turns dirty himself and is sad upon hearing the news, but he remains positive that he will be cleaned in the treatment plant. DID YOU KNOW?: Ipo watershed has an area of 70 square kilometers, with only a handful of forest guards. Annual average rainfall of 3,500 millimeters. Due to the lack of guards, there are rampant illegal logging and kaingin in the area, destroying the quality of water in the Ipo Dam. Water flows from Angat river unto the Ipo Dam, located in Brgy. San Mateo, Norzagaray, Bulacan. Since Ipo Dam is at a lower ground than Angat, gravity helps the water flow down to it.

Eventually, Mr. Water flows to La Mesa water reservoir and reaches the Balara treatment plant where he would be cleaned and ready for distribution. Although his future is uncertain, Mr. Water puts on a brave face hopeful that despite being contaminated in Ipo Dam, he would still be safe for consumption after the treatment.

1. Filtration A mesh will filter out big chunks of debris from the water such as rocks, leaves, etc. After this it is transported with pipes to chlorination stage.

2. Chlorination Initial stage of disinfection by adding chemicals.

3. Rapid Mixing + other chemicals Water is mixed at different speeds and more chemicals are added. This creates solid particles from the raw water.

4. Sedimentation & Filtration Solid particles settle on the bottom and water is filtered through gravel and sand in order to remove fine particles.

5. Disinfection and Distribution Another addition of chlorine is added to disinfect and make water safe for consumption.

Mr. Water is finally out and finished with the treatment process.

The waters are divided into different tanks, Mr. Water becomes unsure and worried...

Where will he end up at the end of the pipe?

He needs to continuously flow and patiently wait within the dark pipe.

Now that Mr. Water completed his journey,

Where do you think he will end up?
