A Sport of Kings

The Ageas Bowl is pleased to announce a renewal of its partnership with King Edward VI School, Southampton and it’s preparatory school, Stroud School, Romsey, as Offi cial School Partners of Hampshire Cricket and Offi cial Supporter of Th e Ageas Bowl. Th e partnership has been extended for a further two years. King Edward VI School has been part of the educational fabric of Hampshire having been established in Southampton since 1553. During the partnership in recent years, Hampshire Cricket Pathway participants have both trained and played fi xtures at the school’s Wellington Sports Grounds. Th e Hampshire Cricket Pathway comprises of approximately 800 children across four regions within Hampshire – North, West, Central, and South East, with each region consisting of seven youth squads from Under 7s to Under 15s. King Edward’s support of cricket goes further as a host venue for cricketing charitable provision provided through the MCC foundation, the Lord’s Taverner’s ‘Wicketz’ programme and most recently the newly formed City Scorchers, all providing opportunities for talented young cricketers from all backgrounds in the City of Southampton.

The Governors of Bryanston have confi rmed the appointment of Richard Jones as the new Head of the School following a rigorous selection process and with immediate eff ect. He becomes the ninth Head of the Dorset school which is renowned for its success in creative thinking and providing an inspirational environment for developing the confi dence, strength and purpose of pupils. Richard joined Bryanston as Second Master in 2020 and was given interim responsibilities as Acting Head at the end of last year. With a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, he has a wealth of experience as a housemaster and in front-line teaching and, before joining Bryanston, was previously at Canford School and St John’s School, Leatherhead.

Valiant Visit

Salisbury Cathedral School welcomed Kate French MBE, Olympic Gold Medallist in modern pentathlon, for an afternoon with the pupils. Kate arrived in Great Britain kit and brought her Tokyo Olympic gold medal for the children to see and be photographed with. After a Q&A with younger pupils - which revealed how Kate is superstitious and jumps and down on new riding kit before using it - Kate moved on to host practical laser shooting sessions with the older children. Her inspirational presentation covered mental preparation for sporting success as well as practical tips for modern pentathlon.
